Kal, any idea how long the sale will last? Not sure if it's known, or something willing to be made public. Thanks!

Is it that the DLP/LCD projectors are not capable of n X 24FPS? If this were the case then it still has nothing to do with need. |
Digitals that can do 72Hz can also do 24Hz or 48Hz so there's no need for 72Hz. Digitals don't flicker at 24 and 48 so ne need to pay extra for 72hz.

Although in theory digitals use a sample and hold approach thus should have no problem at 24 Hz, there is a variety of reasons that you don't want your digital rendering at 24 Hz. A great many of the digitals made in the last couple years that have support for 1080p/24 input actually render at 72 Hz, 96 Hz, or 120 Hz. Since this is nothing but a simple frame rate multiplication there is no benefit to doing it in the processor vs. the projector.
What most digitals WON'T do internally in covert frame rates other than 24, those they tend to display as they come in. So, they won't covert a 2:3 60 Hz pulldown to a multiple of 24. This is where a processor like the Lumagen comes in very handy. I have my Lumagen convert 1080i/60 Hz HD broadcast movies to 72 Hz to feed my digital a smooth image.
So yeah, if you've got a 1080p/24 source, CRT is really the only market for 72 Hz output of that.

Interested in upgrading to a Radiance?

Actually, very temping. When this housing market comes back we want to sell and likely will not have a dedicated theater as it is kind of hard to justify having, heating and cooling our current 2500 cubic foot theater for the 2-6 hours per week it gets used (will find a house with a family room that can be effectively light controlled) so my current plan is plasma that lowers in cabnet and false wall that lowers to reveal scope screen for projection. In this set up, the two outputs are nice. And since I don't have to have double the speakers (family room and theater) and double all the other electronics, I could splurge on the Radiance. Definately something to think about.

I knew i should have waited ;)And they are being delivered today!!! |
You did get a great deal Nashou - I wouldn't worry about it. You couldn't have done any better. There is a limit to how low the prices can go and still have them be worth selling!

I originally read that as 2500 SQUARE foot theater and did a double take.... that's larger than most houses! 2500 cubic feet is still pretty big however! Assuming 8 foot ceilings that's about a 20 x 16 foot room!

I've confirmed that the trade-in program currently offered by Lumagen and these sale prices cannot be combined. someone is likely better off buying the Radiance at the sale price and then selling their VP50 privately.

This was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the other thread.
Maybe you can do a deal with DVDO. I see Tom has some good things to say about the Duo.

I just saw that over in the other thread. Do you mean that you will have Lumagen back? I am sure you have the inside knowledge, but I could never understand how Lumagen/Spectracal/Sencore/etc. were all linked together.

They are no longer linked. It's been a few months now that Lumagen can now sell to anyone because the Sencore deal has gone non-exclusive. Prior to a few months ago they could only be obtained through Sencore.
I've been talking to Jim Peterson at Lumagen and do indeed plan on having Lumagen back very soon. In fact, I'm hoping so soon that most people won't even notice that the Radiance was ever off our order pages in the first place.

That is good news for this site. I hope being non-exclusive is good for Jum (or Jim to everyone else ) as well. I met him at Cedia last year and he is a really nice guy.

Will any of this equipment do what I am looking for at the
Video Processors, HDMI Converters, Switchers, Cables
section of the forum?
