I'm hoping someone can help me with my Barco Data 808. There's no picture, and every second and a half I can hear a click in the area of the boards. Coinciding with that click, 2 of the greed LEDs on the G2 board go out (3rd from the front, and last one - next to the red one).

I'm still pretty much a novice on troubleshooting. So I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Check the part number on the boards themselves, if they're the same you can swap them for sure, the part numbers are the R76xxxx numbers.

Well, I finally got some time to check the part numbers. If the following look like reasonable part numbers, then I guess I'll need to talk to Curt about purchasing some cards to try. It looks like they don't match:

Barco Data 808:
Horizontal = R7617415
Vertical = R7622695

Barco 800:
Horizontal = 761766 (couldn't find something starting with an "R")
Vertical = 761768 (and I found another sticker saying 761769)

So, do those look like reasonable part numbers? Or am I missing something?

THat's a bit of a strange problem. Pull the H board, power back up. You won't get an image, but I want to see if the clicking goes away.

No clicking without the H board. And the red scan fail light on the SMPS is off without the H board... in case that helps.

I am guessing that the H board is bad. A short on that board can cause what you're describing.

Do you want to send it in for repair?

Did you by any chance try to swap the G2 board from a BG808s with the one in your BD808 before the problem ?

No, I hadn't been swapping cards. Everything was working fine for months before it went out. I had replaced the tubes earlier in the fall, but hadn't done any work on it lately. Oh, and I don't have a BG808s. The only ones I have are BD808, BD801s, and 3 Barco 800.

To confirm the H board is bad, I believe the one out of the 801 will work in the data 808.

Hmm. I'm a little nervous about trying that, since I'm using the 801s as my substitute for the 808. Is there any chance that the 808 could do some damage to the 801s's H board if I try it?

Those both use same R7617415 Hdeflection board, you can check that from board markings.

There is also chance that 801s have earlier R761741 version (depend about manufacturing date), but that should work as well. These two share also many other boards, like smps, Vdef and all rgb video boards.

Thanks. The reason I'm being so cautious is that I use these Barcos to run all of my visuals out of in a planetarium. Since I'm already using the BD801s as a backup for my BD808, I can't afford to do something to break the 801s in my attempts to diagnose the 808.

I'll check the part number, and possibly try switching them on Friday. That's my next block of time to work on this.

Curt confirmed via email that it was safe to try my BD801s H output board in my BD808, and sure enough, it worked. So, it does appear that it's the H board that failed. I'm purchasing one from Curt.

Ok, so with the replacement H output board I bought from Curt, I'm getting an image. Yeah! But I'm getting a weird wavy distortion that I haven't seen before. I've attached a photo taken looking into the lens of the green tube with a DVD home screen input. But I also tried another input (computer) and got the same distortion.

Any ideas? I'm sure it's probably just an adjustment somewhere. But I don't know enough to find a reference to it in the documentation.

Were you getting this with the 801 board? That looks like it's an issue contained within the H board, maybe there's a compatibility problem?

Also, that pix looks like video or Svideo. Have you tried an RGB signal, or are you running RGB on that set?
