Very Cool!! I'm impressed.

You have accomplished all this & I have yet to decide on a color. Still laughing at everyone that insist it must be black.

Nice work. The site looks very good for being "thrown together."

Just one minor thing on the site (sorry, one of my pet peaves). The plural of "CRT" is "CRTs" (e.g. "I have too many CRTs!").

"CRT's" is the possesive form( e.g. "My CRT's crappy Spellman power supply died.").

"'s" (apostrophe-s) is only used when pluralizing a letter or word reference (e.g. "I don't want to hear anymore but's") or if just putting an "s" on the end would be ambiguous.

Close, but the correct spelling would be: "My Ampro's crappy Spellman power supply died."

Very Happy

Also list one of your cases at http://cgi.videogon.com/cgi-bin/fs.pl?projcrta

Videogon classified lists are still free and it also attracts buyers that don't visit this site or the A*S site.

BTW, I like someone that takes the initiative and just goes for it and tries to earn a buck for themselves. Kudos to you Derfla!

I've added a link to your site at the bottom of Curt's Marquee page here: http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee.shtm

Hopefully it'll send some traffic your way!

There were several issues that made Derfla the person of choice to make
these cases. One, I have no experience in working with fiberglas. That's important.
Two, the quotes I received from all fiberglas shops that could have handled the job
were prohibitively expensive once I learned the exact, complete build process and
passed on that description to the prospective fiberglassers.

Three, certain extra parts have to be fabricated via an alternative method in order
for this to be affordable to build. The vent covers for the original Vidikron machines
were hand fabricated by welding up aluminum bars and plates. I could not have them
built for anything reasonable and I'm not able to fabricate aluminum to anywhere near
the necessary level of skill. I believe Derfla will instead be casting replica vents
after making a mold from an original vent. I am not a mold maker.

Could I have learned all these things? Yes. In a reasonable time frame? Quite
frankly, NO.

It's important for me to mention that I was pretty much sold a bill of goods on the
case molds. It's a fact that the seller didn't even give me the phone number of the
people who actually were qualified to fully explain the case building process and all
of its pitfalls and complexities until AFTER I had paid for them in full.

In retrospect, it was a bad business decision on my part but I am thankful that
Derfla stepped in and has apparently had some good success in making this work.

And...let's be perfectly honest here:

THE NEWLY MADE CASE PARTS YOU SEE HERE WOULD NOT EXIST IF I HAD NOT
STUCK MY NECK OUT AND DAMN NEAR GOTTEN IT CUT OFF.

Rather than comment that I couldn't hack it and Derfla could, you should instead
think of it this way: I got this ball rolling at considerable personal expense and
aggravation and selected Derfla to actually do the work. We have a deal and
the details of that deal are private, but the fact is that WE are responsible for these
cases once again coming available...and at a FAIR price FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.

You should be THANKING me. And Derfla, OF COURSE.

I've tried a few times to get something worthwhile happening that benefits the CRT
community. FOR ONCE, I've succeeded, but not quite according to the original plan.

That's OK. At the end of the day, I bought and paid for the case molds and now
new cases are being built and at a very fair price. I call this a success story and
a personal victory. And OUR victory.

You should, too.

CJ

Well, if you are all going to be picky about spelling - you need to change just about every "z" to a "s" (for example "analyze" should be spelled "analyse").

And put all the missing letters back in (for example "analogue", not "analog", or "colour" instead of "color").

Of course, you can omit putting the letters back in the correct order (illogical maybe, but correct), for example "Theatre" instead of "Theater".

A whole country who can't spell Wink

If you don't believe me, consult the only proper reference for the English language - the Oxford English dictionary. Wink

Oh, and it's the metric system - get to it, it works really well.

I guess I can live with the spelling differences...but I really do wish you'd adopt the metric system - make my work much easier.

Edit: Spelling.....

Give up on this one Mark--it is never going to happen. There was a big push in the 1970s. It ended up going nowhere. I don't think we'll live to see America on the metric system.

Ok guys thanks, I think I fixed most of the errors. If you find more let me know. like I said I threw this site together this morning. As far as price what do you think, honest answers please. I may be able to work with the price a little, but these things are very time consuming. I will also accept some trades, it never hurts to ask.

I would also like to say thank you to cmjohnson (chris) for doing the hard work of making this possible.

Paul..
