Hello everyone,
I would first like to say that I have finally made the decision to drop my digital setup and cross over to the "Dark-Side"!! I am brand new to both the forum and the CRT world however, after a lot of serious research and weighing the pros and cons of both technologies I have finally settled in my mind that CRT is the best way to go for me based on my budget and desire for hi-end picture quality without the hi-end price! I have purchased a Sony G-70 that looks to be in pretty good shape minus the expected wear on the green tube. My question for anyone who can help me here is, if I were to replace the green tube and possibly the blue tube, what would I be looking at in terms of cost and are there any rebuilt tubes available for this projector? Also, has anyone here ever used one of those "black" screens that reflect the ambient light in the room and will they work with a CRT projector? Thanks in advance guys and I hope to here from you soon!!

Don't do rebuilt tubes! New ones are $645 USD, rebuilds are $500, and have all sorts of issues with them.

VDC is hte only place to get them at 800-241-5005, but get the tube numbers off the tubes before calling.

They are pretty easy to install, there's a procedure in the 'tips' section under 'advanced procedures'.

Thanks for the info Curt!! I will call VDC. The question about the "black Screen" was due to the fact that my room is not completely dedicated to HT. I do have some ambient light that comes into the room and I had seen one of those screens at a local HT showroom. I was just wondering if they would work with CRT projectors or not? Remember I am a newbie so please be gentle!! Very Happy

"or not" is the right answer. Wink Considering an average 8 inch CRT puts out 225ansi lumens you really need as much screen gain as you can get without hot-spotting. A fabric with 1.3 gain minimum and for a really punchy image go for high power 2.8 from da-lite.
You will need to either control the light leaking into the room or do night-time viewing only.

I thought they had went up to around $1k. That is pretty good that they are still at $645.
