Last night I watched Moon. If you like 2001: A Space Odyssey, you'll like this. It's not bang bang shootem up exciting, never the less still a great flick...Kevin Spacey as the "Hal" like robot was superb.

I had never heard of this movie until it was available on BD - I bought it based on very positive reviews, and loved it. I was really impressed with Sam Rockwell's acting, and also enjoyed Kevin Spacey as Gerty. Just goes to show that you can make a solid movie on a relatively low budget with a solid, involving story and great acting.

When it drops below $20, I'll buy.

That is right-on. Good story, good acting... Just a plain old good quality solid scifi flick. My wife isn't even much of a scifi fan, and she really enjoyed it.
Good stuff. Two thumbs up.
The BD looked and sounded excellent, too.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Toward the end of this page of the thread, and on the next page, the discussion turns to certain details of the plot. If you haven't yet seen the movie, avoid this thread. Go watch it and come back and discuss - it's an excellent movie.

Exactly, it's primarly a human story that anyone can buy into and identify with, set against a not-to-distant futuristic sci-fi backdrop. I was really happy with the PQ/AQ on the disc as well.

Thank you! I watched the preview for this before it came out and really wanted to see it. Of course with limited release and marketing I promptly forgot about it. Adding it to my queue now.

Good movie. Was really looking forward to this one as a fan of the the Sci-Fi "thinking man/realistic" type movies.
One thing that seemed odd to me is that he works 100% alone up there. That's just plain odd for the various reasons that you'd expect: (a) It would tend to drive you crazy, (b) What if something happened? They have so much invested in the work he does and while he's able to handle the work by himself what's the big deal of having 2 if not 3 people for insurance purposes.
I understand the movie wouldn't have worked at all if he wasn't alone but that kind of irked me right from the start given that everything else science-y related in the movie seemed plausible/real.
Great movie however. Don't let that detract you from watching it.

That's not a spoiler. It's right from the trailers: He's working alone and something happens. It's the whole premise of the movie.

Would be like spoiling Lord of the Rings for someone by mentioning it's about hobbits and a ring.

OK H.A.L. I mean Kal, you sure didn't spoil this movie with your comments at all. I just watched it and was blown away with the story.
It is truly a good solid movie. It will make you think and maybe even be somewhat repulsed when you analyze it. But that is what makes it so good.
Sam Rockwell plays a involved part that had me suspend disbelief for most of the time.
Rockwell also played Zaphod Bebblebrox in The Hitchhikers guide To The Galaxy.
It deserves a watch for sure
I only rented the DVD from REDBOX. Though I guessing I will buy it later when it's under $10

We watched it last night and as soon as it was over my wife said "can we watch that again tomorrow." It was a very well thought out movie and very original. At the beginning I thought it was going to be generic, but boy was I wrong.
Why wasn't Moon promoted in theaters? I hadn't heard of it until BD either.

SPOILER
Kal, the point was that he had to work alone. If and when he was killed or injured, another clone was simply programmed and was immediately ready to start working. If there had been others, there would have been complications in the plan to keep the clone in the dark about who and what he was. The point was the clone thinks he is a real person with a life on earth. The public on earth was unaware that a clone was even up there. When the clone escaped he made it public and the world learned that a human like being was being abused (very end of movie).

Craig do you know how hard it is to see a movie in this day and age you have NEVER heard of AND have know IDEA what it's about ? That's what made it so enjoyable for me.
Please don't ruin it for others.
I not bashing you, but the surprise was the best part.

No, I understand that Craig... it's just that for him to be up there alone would seem kind of odd. I mean, he KNOWS he's looking after a multi-billion dollar operation. If I was in his shoes the first thing I'd ask is "why am I doing this alone?".
>> Why wasn't Moon promoted in theaters? I hadn't heard of it until BD either.
It was a small indy release that was picked up by Sony Classics. It did not have a wide release at all.
Little known fact: It was written and directed by David Bowie's son (Duncan Jones). The movie was 100% written for Sam Rockwell.
