Hello All, I will be getting a pj soon and wanted to know about transcoders. I will be getting a marquee and need to know if a transcoder is needed to connect up pj and dvd player or can I connect dvd player directly to pj. Newbie here but didn't want to spend money on a piece of equipment if not needed.

Natively a Marquee will only accept RGB. You can get some progressive scan DVD players with RGB output via a VGA connector, but they aren't common.

You need a transcoder for component video to RGB, and/or for HDMI output to RGB...

If you go the transcoder route you cannot go wrong with the RTC2220 I sell, it accepts resolutions up to 1080p, can drive long cables and has both RGB and component inputs with gamma control for better black detail.

I have a "KimCoder" (as the RTC2220 is sometimes called) as well, and it's an excellent product with first rate support.

Another strong recommendation for Beun's product. I've owned a lot of different transcoders over the years, and the RTC2200 is easily the best, and reasonably priced.

Another thumbs up to the RTC2200 - I've used one for years, it's extremely high quality and the gamma boost is 100% necessary to get the most out of your CRT.

Thanks Guys, I'll take your recommendation and get a transcoder. The plan as funds allow is to get an external moome hdmi unit, oppo dvd player. Screen size will be approximately 92" diagonal. But first order of business is to get pj, learn how to set it up properly and enjoy. May need to have boards upgraded as well but small steps first.
