This is driving me crazy!!

I set-up my pioneer lx71 blu-ray player with my tv through Hdmi and it worked no problem.

Updated it at the time so it has v1.37.

Moved the player to my ht room and connected it to my Barco 1209s through Hdmi but no picture.

Both my xbox 360 and sharp blu-ray player work perfectly through the same Hdmi cable connected to the Barco (Hdfury original and short bnc cable).

I've seen posts on various forums about this happening after updates etc. and tried the different suggestions with no success.

I have the lx71 connected through s-video too so i can get a picture in order to try various settings but still the same result, no picture with hdmi. With s-video set as the connected picture output i can get all the way through the set-up navigator but when i choose hdmi it will only go so far and when it searches for the hdmi connection the projector screen just says the usual 'warning- source not possible' or something like that and returns to s-video input. I have been able to get to the last screen in the set-up navigator with hdmi selected in the options while using the s-video input on the pj but cannot select the 'finish' icon in the set-up navigator to complete it. It just returns to the navigator again.

So what is it with the pj and the pioneer or does the hdfury cause any problems?

The pioneer ouputs 1080p24 automatically which the sharp doesn't but you can change the output resolution which i've done but it still doesn't work.

All i can do for now is use component, hope it works ok so i'll try it next if no success and possibly get a scaler later this year which should surely solve any problems.

But in the meantime i would like to get it working with my current set-up.

Is the blue light on the HD Fury ever coming on when connected to the Pioneer? You mentioned 1080p/24... Are you able to disable that, or does the Pioneer force you to do so only after you're using the HDMI output?

So, the "warning- source not possible" message... That's a Barco message, right? Sounds like maybe the signal is out of range. I wonder if the Pioneer is defaulting to something wonky, and then you're unable to continue.

Do you have an old multisync CRT computer monitor you could use with the HD Fury and the Pioneer to test what's happening after you select the HDMI output?

Thanks for the replies guys!

First, i don't have a power supply connected to the hdfury original. Don't remember if one came with it? It's just connected between the hdmi cable and projector as normal and works ok this way for my other hd sources. Just this pioneer machine i'm having a problem with. (the hdfury blue light is on when connected to the pioneer)

As far as i can make out the player does start off with 1080p24 native which you can then change to 1080i output etc manually later when you want but not during the set-up stage i think, not 100% sure though. I've changed the output at different times when i can with no difference as to getting a picture. You simply press a button on the remote. The pj will look for the signal but i get the message and blank screen. The warning message i was referring to is from the pj itself. It shows this too if you don't have anything connected to it.

I don't have a scaler yet nor a monitor. Though the player works through Hdmi fine on my jvc tv and it's only 1080i too.

I am connected also at the same time to the pj through s-video.

According to the manual: Hdmi selected for video - no signal output from component, s-video or video terminals. and when component, s-video or video selected no video output from Hdmi.

My bed time now so will check back here to-morrow evening! Thanks Sad

finally tried the component but again no luck with this. I got all the way through the set-up navigator but could only get a picture on the s-video input again. The component is downscaled to 576 even though it lets you choose 1080i. I was also thinking that when it works with my tv it's a different and much shorter Hdmi cable if that makes any difference.
Unless there are any other suggestions i'm stuck for now. I could look at the pioneer specific forums again and try them for an answer.

Success, in part anyway.

After coming across info on problems with some sources not being able to drive the Hdfury (original in my case) i took a look at it. Although it's blue light was on i felt it looked a bit dim (don't know if it works that way) and after the last 2 posts here suggesting a power issue (thanks for that!) i connected the RTC2200 transcoder to it and 'hey presto', the HDMI now works. It (rtc2200) provides a power source for the hdfury.

Only problem now is, i can only get a picture when the lx71 outputs 480p60. This is in Auto setting.

1080i doesn't work. It says my tv (projector) doesn't accept it.

Maybe i have to adjust something in the RTC2200? Just glad the HDMI is now working.

Pretty sure you're screwed.

The EDID in the HDFury isn't telling your device that IT can accept a higher resolution, the RTC has nothing to do with it...

All HDMI converters stand in for an HDCP compliant display, as such, they need to relay to the device that gets connected their capabilities, as a display. Unfortunately, HDMI is a two way connection...maybe because the Fury could use a power supply, it is not relaying its full capabilities to your BD player ?? Just guessing about that...more likely the Fury's EDID isn't telling the player it has full capability...Before you do anything more drastic, make sure you pull the power to your BD player long enough that any capacitors will release their charge, then put the power back and see if the same situation occurs. When you remove the power you will make the HDMI handshake recur, hopefully your BD player will get a more complete resolution capability returned by the Fury...

I'll give what you said a try. I can do a reset which may help.

What you have explained is how i thought the whole system works, so it's good to know i'm on the right tracks.

It is annoying that my sharp blu-ray player works perfectly with the pj and hdfury with no extra power supply or other problems and at 1080i. The issue with the lx71 is it has so many more options but in the end it should be worth it, for the 7.1 analogue hd sound etc.
