Heck, just the custom built wooden box to ship it in was going to cost about that much. You can ship a car oversees for maybe '400 bucks', but that is a very standard item and shippers are used to that thing. They see projectors as completely different and they charge higher for items of non-standard dimensions and non-standard requirements (it has to be handled with some degree of care). Finally, the only way you can ship it for '400 bucks' is if you take the 'slow boat' which is minimum 6 weeks in each direction. That's 3 months without the cinema not counting repair time.

Bruce, you're being taken for a ride by someone.
My worst case air fright for a 300 lb 9" set is $850 to Australia. Vancouver to Europe is usually $450-500 for a 9" set, crated in heat treated wood.
Next time, buy a $50 car, gut it, put the 9" set in it, and ship that way..

Which shipper do you use?
Is that the price both ways or just one way?
