Hi,

it might be easier to swap the backplane together with the entire CLM/VIM/CMM/ACON/etc. cage....

Regards,

OH of course, i wouldn't just swap out the chip. but what i might do is try to copy a good chip and try re writing
to a bad chip if they are readable and writable. I'm not sure if they use a battery or not to keep memory or not.

Depends if it's a one time write chip or not. Some were and some weren't (in general). Datasheet will tell you.

Here is the data sheet, the Marquee chip ends in a 4 not the 5.

http://ecee.colorado.edu/~mcclurel/fnm24c04.pdf

So it looks like it can be written to and copied I would assume, right?

Basic Eeprom. no problem reading and writing. Are you sure your data is saved there?

I'm pretty sure that the delay timings are and the Serial Number etc. When I saved the Adjustments for the convergence timing they didn't change with new CLM's I tried.

I have another M8000( same chassis as the one giving me issues) that I just took the Back plane
off of. Now I'll have to strip the Other PJ down and try this one. Only thing , is this PJ never allowed HV to come up.
This is my First marquee I ever got, drove down to ohio to get it. worked at the place I picked it up.
Put it in my car( back seat on its side) brought it in and it wouldn't light up the tubes.
So I hope this Back Plane is not messed up either. other wise it will have been a wasted tear down. Sad

Update.

I was thinking about this more and really didn't want to do a complete tear down on the set after I got the back plane out of another Marquee i had sitting around. I did some research and see that some signals are sent from the VDM to the HDM and CLM. So i decided to just swap out another Rear heat sink assembly I had on my First marquee that was dead. Put that in and viola the timings worked better adjusting on this set of boards. I was able to have top pin right in the center and also able to get the Convergence timings perfect. not at the default of 50 but not 0 either. I think they ended up around 40 or so. So the back plane is fine and now I will try to swap this rear heat sink into my work shop marquee and see if it acts up in that chassis or if it works fine and it was just too different that the Timing menus could not fix it with that chassis. I bet a bad chip on the VDM might be the culprit.

Next thing I want to try next is the Focus timings using Scotts method. I'll record that for a youtube video.

but that will be at a later time. Wink
