OK, the gas worked!
I left the tube outside, face up, and put gas in. Topped it up twice in 24 hours, then flushed it like crazy,and I was really skeptical as it didn't look like the silicone had changed any. But.. sure enough, the box cutter blade went right through the silicone, smoove like butta!
I rotated the tube 180 degrees, and I'm resealing it now.
