So, I like looking at Zooey. I find her attractive, easy on the eyes, and a nice candidate for a threesome. Mr. Green

But no movie she could be in (aside from maybe something XXX rated) can turn me on more than the pricing for (500) Days of Summer has turned me off. Amazon's price is no better than Best Buy. And while in Wally World yesterday (refilling an Epipen prescription) I noticed that this movie was the only movie in the entire store that was wrapped in a hard plastic security container.

Ok, I do understand to some degree that the studio releasing it into the wild see [very] few sales and as a result they need to make a much [, much] larger margin per unit sale. A counter-example would be something like District 9 selling for $16-17. But even Wally World executives realized that the price for (500) Days of Summer is so expensive as to expect theft in large numbers because of it.

I have to wonder how many potential sales the releasing studio will lose as a result of what I, and the resellers, might consider as abnormally high pricing for a movie like (500) Days of Summer. And this particular movie is by no means the first movie to be treated as such. This bad pricing decision-making has been around for a while.

For instance, I remember when Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux came out on optical media. They were both bad movies with very limited cowsumer market appeal. As such, the releasing studios decided to price it way over what it was worth. Strangely enough my patience ruled out on AF, but the wife went and bought Ultraviiolet (she wanted it) and paid the man.

I cannot be the only one recognizing this and having a studio-opposing stance. What other movies did ya'll find abnormally priced?

Hmmm. I expected when I went looking for this that the price would be abnormally sky-high. (You didn't say.)

Instead, it just turned out to be the usual sky-high $40 list price, $25 "sale" priced, 90-something minute, light romantic comedy. Same as "All About Steve", "Extract", and all the rest, etc. That's apparently what Hollyweird thinks these things are worth on Blu-ray these days... at least upon initial release. Evidently some people must be buying them at that price, or they wouldn't be at that price. Sure, it's ridiculous.

Give it a while. You'll eventually find it in the bargain bin for 8 bucks, along with all the rest they're trying desperately to get rid of.

I thought I'd bump this thread. The wife and I just watched this, and I thought it was a great movie.

We both really liked the story, and really, really liked the lead roles and their characters. I don't know if I'd say it's quite "light romantic comedy", though... I'd say the story is a notch or two heavier than that... After all, it's "not a love story".

The creative story line and out-of sequence reveal combined with good music, good dialog and very believable characters... Good movie. Two thumbs up. Oh, and Zooey is super-cute. Maybe I really liked this because I like sad stories... I can get absorbed in sadness and dismay easier than light, airy stuff. Plus, there are some Smiths songs sprinkled about... Sweet.

Anyway, not sure about the pricing deal... We rented it. Now it seems to be just under $20 everywhere. It's interesting, though... On Amazon, there's no price, you can't buy it, and there's this weird message on the page that I've never seen before:
Quote:
Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

I did wind up getting (500) Days of Zooey when the priced dropped below $20. And so far Heathers has to be the cheapest BD I've seen to date ($5.99 from Amazon) without just giving it away.
