How much media storage do you have for your HTPC? Is it enough? Can it ever be enough?
Just wondering what others are doing, hopefully you guys will once again be able to prove that I am not crazy, or at least that there are other crazy people like me out there...
I have about 3TB right now, and I'm planning on hopefully bumping that up to between 6 and 10 by this time next year.

You need another option, greater than 10TB...I have 11TB of space currently in my media server with ~10TB used.

Well, with 2 TB drives now in the $150 range, it's a lot cheaper than it used to be. I only have 1 TB for the PC and 1TB for the PVR expander (TV). The PC is only at about 500GB used. I refuse to put movies on it.

Oops, thought I had that option...
I'll get that fixed.
Edit- it doesn't seem I can edit the poll so we'll just have to put you in your own special unpolled group.

I'm with you completely on that, if prices hit <$100 for >/=2TB sometime in the next year I'll likely be going for at least 10TB, all thanks to your excellent EAC3To GUI

I have around 1TB across a few drives but then I don't store anything on the HTPC. I keep it all on disk. I know...it isn't a REAL media server but I just hate the thought of putting all my eggs in one basket.
I've thought of setting it up as a RAID array but I saw how HDD prices were dropping so decided to hold off until I can do 40TB across redundant drives.

I no longer buy hard drives 1TB or under, and I stopped buying one drive at a time a couple of years ago. Just before Xmas I bought a pair of 1.5TB drives. Before that, I bought four 1TB drives.

At an average of 25GB for each Bluray, thats only 400 disks and I only rip the main feature, if I ripped the entire disk it would be maybe 250 to 300 disks.
My server will only support 12 drives and I'm at 11 now, 9-1TB, 1-1.5TB and 1-500MB system drive. I was hoping to see drives larger than 2TB hit the market before I needed to start replacing the 1TB drives but it looks like I'm going to run out of room first. I'll need to decide weather it's better to upgrade my server to accomodate more drives or start replacing the 1TB drives with 2TB drives....
Chris.

I answered 4-6 but only 1/2 of that is available as networked attached storage or in pc's. Over 1/2 is stored in bare hard drives that I just use a USB dongle to connect or a removable HD bay when I want one of those movies (I have them indexed on IMDB so I know what bare drive they are on.
Why have all that storage available to spin instantly; versus plugging it in? I just don't need that much spinning.

I have all my drives set to spin down when not in use. But I do agree that external usb storage is another option. But it may not be as cost effective as internal drives, USB hard drives ususally cost more or if buying bare drives and mounting in enclosers, the cost of the enclosers needs to be taken into account.

I have like 25 bare drives and one usb dongle (ide and usb cable) w power for any computer and one one computer with an HD enclosure with a removable tray that I can swap the drives into easily as it has an ide ribbon (serial ata is an option as well) and power connector) - so the cost is minimal besides the bare drive cost
I also have maybe 3 usb drives but I agree they are costly compared with bare drives but convenient

I actually have one of these;
http://pccyber.com/?v=product&i=RACK-TT-N0028USU
I use it for bare drives, it has an e-SATA port on it and you can hot swap the drives.

2TB Hitachi's on sale at Newegg...can't find the coupon now but I think they were $170 each.
I have 3TB worth of Hitachi's now and haven't had a hiccup in over a year.

And you'll have to add me to that group as well. I'll just say "over 10 TB", but if your poll was logarithmic, you'd need another 4 notches.
I buy nothing smaller than 1.5 TB drives now (doesn't make sense on a $/GB basis), but did pick up a 2 TB WD on sale for ~$125 during the post Thanksgiving sales ($140, minus Bing @10%). Both the Samsung and WD 1.5 TB "green" drives can be had for $100 or less, most of the time.
I'll probably avoid buying many of the 2 TB drives as long as I can... primarily because incoming burn-in testing takes so long (~23 hours), and I never put a drive into service without 100% pre-qual tests first.
