Are you sure you have the H and V cables connected correctly? Swap them around to see if it does anything.

there should be a setting in the drivers for outputting rgbhv, the marquee also accepts rgsb i think.

I don't think you need a new card, I bet there is a setting somewhere in the cards software that came with it or in the video/display control panel.
I am not a HTPC guy but i am sure almost any PC card the Marquee should sync to.

Any one else familiar with his card? maybe you should post this in the HTPC area.

TV/Projector: Marquee 9501LC / NEC 9PG+

I would definitely try a different source before swapping boards. Have an old PC you could try with a lower resolution? Actually scratch that, can you pull the video card an just use the onboard video from the VGA out? See if that does something first as it's the easiest to try.

ok guys thanks for all the input i really appreciate it.
luckily ive got a picture now.
i think the problem was the matrox card.
i bought an ati hd4890 card today, it has all sorts of goodies on it and is an excellent scaler of course.
i wanted to buy it anyway but this awkwardness speeded up things.
i think it might have something to do with the matrox perhaps not sending a high enough voltage so the marquee cant lock up.
anyway im extremely happy with the 2000yr model ultra and now its time to set the picture straight.
