Ok,

Here is the story...

I have 2 DWIN 700 projectors. One is like new in the box, and the other has about 3500 hrs on it. The one with the most hours is my main PJ and the other one is my backup/ parts machine. Since there is very little wear on the older one I am using it first. I love these guys because they are small and silent, and on my 100" screen 720p looks great!

On to my problem...

I love my DWIN but this is second time my Blue Tube has died out. The first time i pulled the neck/tube board (not sure the technical term but it is the mini board on the end of the tube) and replaced it with my spare. Worked perfectly!

Then my power supply made an arc and died. Ok, swapped the spare into it! Works great.

Then my RED tube went out!!!

This is over a period of 4 years mind you Smile I watch maybe 10 hours a week btw.

I pulled the red neck board and replaced it with my spare.

>> Please note for you non-DWIN owners that all three neck boards are different and not interchangeable.

That was about a year ago.

So now I am on my spare power supply and my spare BLUE, and RED neck boards. Green is still good. Smile

Well yesterday while I was warming up the set my blue tube came on just fine as always, then after about an hour it just went out. There is no light visible from the front of the PJ and when I pulled the cover off I can see that the tube still has some power to it as it is slightly glowing orange, but the face is dead.

I am assuming that it is the neck board again, but I am a little puzzled that the tube still has some power. Not sure if that was the case in the past or not.

So ...

Does anyone have a suggestion what my next step would be? I know DWIN is gone (and I live in Burbank lol). I am sure Curt can fix this, but if it is as simple as putting a meter on it and identifying a bad diode maybe I can have it fixed locally? I need to get it running as soon as possible as it is my only TV!

Curt, if you are reading this and it is a cheap fix then maybe I can send you all 3 boards so I have spares again?

Any help is most appreciated! Thanks guys!

Here's the key test:

Put up the test pattern. If the tubes all work, your problem is corrosion on the wiring connectors between the BNC input panel and the chassis. There's a molex connector on each end that will corrode. Reseat it, or better yet, clean it with Caig DeOxIt.

I have had those neck boards fail, I've even had the board connectors on the motherboard corrode as well, but if the internally generated test patterns work, your problem is not with the socket.

Thanks Curt!

I just tested it and there is no blue in any of the test patterns. Looks like the neck board AGAIN. How busy are you this time of year? Maybe I should send you all 3 boards and have you repair them? If it is cheap enough to do then that would be best. Otherwise I could either buy one from you (if you have one to sell) or buy one and send you the bad one etc etc.

I just want to get this thing going as soon as possible. I have new Christmas Blurays to watch Smile

I've got about 10 700s here, and am scrapping more than 1. Email me, I'm sending stuff out on Tuesday to the US again. I can send a set ahead of time if you want.

Unless you track down someone that used to work at DWIN, those schematics are gone. THey never released them.

OK!

Got me replacement Neck board from Curt. Popped it in and the board works perfectly!

A note to Curt: You do not need to cut/solder the red high power lead that goes to these boards. There is a white box with 2 tabs on the neck board that the hot lead goes into. Pop the 2 taps out a little and the box folds over and the wire slides right out. no need to cut or solder anything! I have successfully done this 3 times now.

Thanks again.
