|
|
Not sure if this is happening in your neighborhood as it is mine, but I am scoring deals on both DVDs and Blue Rays left and right as Blockbuster stores start to go out of business. I've scored a number of new releases for $10 or less, and some old school stuff for much less. Blue Rays are hit and miss, but I've been able to dicker a bit on a few, especially as the store close date nears.
Just curious if anyone else is seeing this?

Huh?
At my local Blockbuster prices on previewed and new movies seems to have been pretty steady, and the rental price has gone up.
Are just some of the stores closing?

Yes, Blockbuster is closing a bunch of its stores. Redbox and Netflix are putting the hurt on them, so they're cutting the least profitable store locations.

None of the Blockbuster stores in my location are closing. I'm glad, because I really like the service. I do the Blockbuster online thing, which is cool because you can take the mailed discs back into the store and swap them for one in-store title for cheap or free. Plus, unlike Netflix, there's no "Blu-ray tax", which is why I dumped Netflix.
Ever since they got rid of their late fees, I've been renting more in-store movies, too. I'm pretty happy with Blockbuster at this point.

I love the 2 for $30, 2 for $20, 2 for $16, etc... deals they have. Gotten 95% of my movie collection from Rogers and Blockbuster "previously enjoyed" that way. Haven't heard of any closures up here.

Good to know. I also take advantage of the 2 for deals on their previously viewed titles. I've gotten a number of my movies that way while they are full price at Best Buy and others. It seems the the stores I hit were in bad locations, so it makes perfect sense they are leaning down to just the profitable stores.
