TV/Projector: Barco Data 701

Posted: Wed Dec 23, 2009 12:53 am    Post subject: windows 7 on imac only allows 640 x 480 for barco

Hi, I am trying to setup my imac windows 7 install to my barco data 701 ( which I have connected fine to os x on the imac ).

Problem I am getting is that in either the windows, nvidia or powerstrip control panels I can only get the screen resolution to be 640 - no other resolutions are available. Any ideas why ? I am running it at 800 x 600 on os x with no issues at all.

Ps. I am connected via a vga mini displayport adapter to rgb + combined sync ( h & v sync cables combined onto 1 connector ).

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure if this will work on an iMac or not, but on a PC we're usually limited to 1600x1200 and this workaround let's us use 1080p.

"I'm guessing you are limited to 1600x1200 on your monitor?

See if you can follow this, I don't remember the process completely but this is a basic summary of how I got 1080p working for me.

Go to "screen resolution"
Go to "properties" of the display you want to modify
Go to "monitor tab"
Go to "properties?" of monitor
Go to "drivers" tab
Go to "update driver"
Click on option "let me choose a driver" or something like that
Uncheck box that says "show compatible drivers"
Now you should have a long list of drivers, I went down the list to "Sony Corporation" and then chose the driver for the GDM FW-900.

Reboot and you should be able to select 1080p

Make sure the drivers for you video card are up to date, or this could cause problems.

Hope this helps,

Erik"

Thanks Zebu.

Hi, have done some more digging and it seems there is a problem with the mini displayport vga adapter and windows which means that when using a non edid device you cant have anything other than 640 x 480. Only an issue with the vga adapter - if I use the dvi version then no issues - apart from t he fact that apple only output digital over dvi - not analogue. Bit of a pisser really Sad Want to use win 7 rather than OSX since media centre is so much better than eye tv.

Will give it a go but aint holding my breath. Tks NVIDIA.... grr.

Can you use Powerstrip to write a custom edid for your display?

You could also look at using the DVI out, and running through a HD-Fury to get an analog signal.

I also encountered this problem with only having 640x480 available on the mini Displayport of my Mac Mini using Windows 7 64-bit.
I found that Apple have updated their Bootcamp drivers to 3.1. Installing this updates the nVidia driver and fixes the problem.

I believe the underlying issue is that the Barco wants negative sync. I've seen this here as well, 640 X 480 works, no other resolutions do. If not using a digtal output, you can always get an Extron 202 box and use it as a sync inverter.
