I really really really hope this doesn't go anywhere. xvYCC has been looming on the horizon for a few years now...
What bothers me about xvYCC isn't that it is bad (it's actually better if properly implemented), it's just that it is a third color gamut that we have to deal with. We already have the REC and SMTPE standards for color gamut on SD and HD, now here comes a third.
Furthermore, CRT inherently can only display one color gamut, and many have striven to make their projector adhere to the HD standard. If xvYCC takes off, we will need even darker c elements for our projector for the xvYCC to look correct. Otherwise the colors are going to look really strange on CRT.
The worst part though is that source material is often messed up because the wrong color gamut is used with the wrong material; using an HD gamut for SD or the other way around. If we have a third gamut, there are going to be even more errors in mastering and I just fear that we will have all kinds of material with incorrect colors.
The other thing that burns me up is that Sony started promoting the xvYCC gamut only months after REC709 was finalized as industry standard for HD. Then here comes big old Sony trying to impose their color gamut on the rest of the industry with their strong arm tactics. xvYCC is not an industry standard put for by SMTPE and as such is not an industry standard gamut... xvYCC is even somewhat open to interpretation.
It also irks me that Sony created their own gamut. I mean now Sony can say, it's our gamut and we do it the best, and you need a Sony source to make our gamut look correct on our TV's. At least other manufacturers are capable of also matching the gamut but...
But whatever. Me complaining can't stop the machine

That's a pretty good article if I recall (I read it a while ago). Definitely worth a looking at because it explains a lot of signal issues that many folks do not understand... and understanding them makes it possible to actually get one's video section to look correct

LOL
I've been known to do that now and again I tend to be kinda blunt, but I do tell it like I see it.
