Would a green c-element from a G70 work in say...an Ampro or Barco and 8 or 9" tubes? Are they all the same c-elements?

3M HD-10 c elements are only made for the HD-10 family of lenses as far as I know......

The HD-18 and HD-34 C elements are the same.
But the HD214/215/etc used in Barco Retros is different. About the same diameter, but different curvature.

Also, Barco with their really old TAC lenses (9" ES focusing) used different curvature as well. I put one of those onto a 9" EM focusing set once, and it took 1/2 hour for me to figure out why the edges were not in focus.

AmPro's 9" C element "prescription" is not the same as on the C elements used on Marquees, and presumably, Barcos as well.
I know...I tried. No way could I make the Ampro C element-equipped Marquee tube assembly focus on both the edges and center. It
was one or the other but nowhere near both at once.

You must of had some other problem. I have a red C element that was part of the group buy. It is in my Ampro 4600 with no problems and I know others have them in Barco's and Marquee's. I also am using a green C element that came out of a Barco 1209 in it. I have no issues with focus as you describe.
The C elements are made to mate to lens types, not model specific. All HD 10 series lenses use the same C elements. The only difference that I ever heard was between the shades of green between the Marquee and sony's.

I do love my AmPro's

You are absolutely and exactly correct.
"C" elements are the first lens element, hence the designation "liquid coupled", or "optically coupled".
Anyone who asserts differently is mistaken, in the example proffered, they were likely trying to focus a lens at a size/distance that lens was not intended for, as the description of the problem is exactly what one would expect when trying to use a certain lens outside of its intended range.
