Yes, Doc is sending me G90 boards for modification. I can’t say with 100% confidence the mod will eliminate all the artifacts however from understanding the cause of the problem and studying the G90 my feeling is it will lessen them. I can say with confidence that if the 1292 mod doesn’t work 100% on the G90 that I can redesign it to work 100%. That is when I get my G90 test bed.

A side note, a variation of the mod was designed for a barco. Not having a barco I used a software program “SPICE” to design the mod. The results were less then perfect but encouraging. The streaking was not eliminated but reduced by an estimated 60%. I can’t verify the results as the modifications and testing are being done elsewhere.

Craigr, can you make a test pattern with a 255,255,255 RGB horizontal rectangle on a 12,12,12 background and post a picture of what the G90 displays?

And Craig, I am curious, can you explain what you base you skepticisms on?

I tend to be skeptical, it's nothing against you. The G90 is quite a bit different than the 1292 so I think it may be difficult for you without a G90 in hand... that's all. But the Barco note is encouraging.

I'll be happy to post the pattern displayed on the G90 as you requested. However, I think there will be very little streaking in that pattern on my setup.

Here is a link to the pattern you requested. Will that work for your experiment?

When I take a photo of the pattern you asked for I will also take a shot with a 30-30-30 background.

I tried to capture these for you the other day. Streaking of bright objects on a dark background does not really show up much on the G90 and I can't get the camera to capture it. If I raise the brightness well above calibrated levels I can force the streaking to manifest. If you want I can take a photo of that.

I think the streaking on the G90 may be more of a video smear than streaking...

I understand, a picture is not necessary at this point. Let’s see how the testing goes with the modified G90 boards.

This would be a good time standardize on a comprehensive set of test patterns. I will soon post a link to a set of test patterns we can use for benchmark testing. I would appreciate if you could look them over and recommend any changes or additional patterns you think necessary to show video artifacts.

Craig, Here is the LINK to a test pattern set designed to expose various video artifacts. The .rar file contains the ISO image file you can use to burn a dvd. If additional patterns are necessary please let me know and I will add them. Of course the effort is to build a bench mark set of test patterns we can all use to help quantify the severity of any artifacts and the affects from any modifications.

Play the file, set the projector brightness to minimum and as the patterns cycle look for streaking, shadows and smearing. The white bars on black background and black bars on white background show streaking; the white bars on gray background and black bars on gray background show shadows; the text on background shows smearing. Repeat the tests with varying brightness I.E. min,20,40,60,80.

Let me know your findings.
