|
|
Hi all,
considering picking up one of these last 10 (?) NEC XG Moome cards with HDMI 1.3 - in my last setup I was using a HTPC through DVI (moome card) but not sure I'll continue with HTPC or go Popcorn hour or so, in which case HDMI would be an advantage to begin with out of practical considerations. No idea with respect to image quality when using HTPC as source, since HTPC can control gamma and DVI is digital by itself, so not sure if HDMI would be any gain over DVI there? However with other sources I guess it's a huge increase in performance?
So would you guys recommend the Moome HDMI 1.3 box over the older DVI version? Regardless of source, or even in case of HTPC as source?
Also, do you guys know how Moome marks the shipments? Thinking of customs here... wouldnt' really fancy paying the current price, then have to pay 30% or so on top of the total amount due to customs slamming their claws in the parcel. What are your experiences?
Cheers
//Joris

The new Gen HDMI Moome cards offer A fair amount of picture quality improvement over the older DVI cards, Especialy the latest v2 Moome cards..
HDMI has the Ability to allow not only RGB 8bit but YcBcR 444 and particularly YcBcR 422 10/12 bit which offers A step up in image quality..
DVI offers only RGB 8bit, 256-step Gradation but most of new gen HDMI v 1.3 Blu-Ray players , display devices and so on offer Deep color YcBcr 4:2:2/4.4.4 suport, thus upconverting / increasing blu-rays 8bits yCbCr 4:2:0 format up to 12bit , 4,096-step gradation or more..
This extra head room helps reproduce more natural looking colours with smoother gradation and minimal colour banding compared to 8bit RGB..
Some devices upconvert to even higher bit depth (upto 36bit) compared to RGB's 8-256..
If you have say A Blu-Ray player that can output 4:2:2 10/12bit and send that signal to your Calibrated Projector/Moome Full-HD card as I do, the image quality is greatly improved compared to if I switch back to RGB 8bit...
Cheers...

Heck the missus wrote me on MSN earlier on "You got a package from China, I had to sign for it"... so I asked if perhaps it could've been Taiwan instead, and yeah such was the case
That's one fast delivery, and no custom trouble!
Now if only I could find the time to install the card and hook up our mediabox and give it a go
