Maybe you're right, but I have 3 of that board, so I think I can take the risk. My friend is a very advanced hobbyist and he is able to solder at PC boards level so I think he could try..

I am not sure the Ultra CVM(Convergence and Vertical Module) schematics are there. TSE I think posted somewhere what needs to be added.

I know Drag's was one who was asking but I agree its best to let someone who knows exactly what needs to be done. One mistake on the VDM can spot burn all the tubes.

I think Curt or Tim knows what to do, Or Even Dragan, but I am not sure .

Nobody knows how to modify VDM board to make it an ultra board?
I looked at pics posted by menec and draganm, and it looks I need to solder a resistor, a capacitor and a fly wire....

I see there's no answer to my request...
So I ask: is there any problem if I straight top/bottom lines by green convergence, the way i'm doing, for the while...; I see no banding and the convergence pattern does not look to drift...

What you first need to do is make sure your yokes are level. Zero out convergence and look at the grids are they all level on the tube face to the horizon.
if not your yokes need to be straightened.
But those who do not have ultras would use green convergence to fix the top bottom sides that way, but it does put strain on the circuits, they can over heat. And since the VDM is also on the same heat sink your heating up all the amps on the same heat sink.

Grids are leveled on tube face, excluding convergence; but, anyway, I have some top and bottom picushion distortion that would be nice to correct by geometry...
But looks like if I don't have ultra VDM board it is impossible... I will be waiting, hoping someone can post modifications needed to convert my VDM in Ultra.

Ok I tried to take some pics , the PJ is on the ceiling. So it was hard to stand on my PJ cart with out falling off Wink Also on the CVA the last two pics, there is a fly wire that goes underneath. Tim might be able to get better pics. And this is a LONGBOW, so it might have some different things, like the vertical squeeze resistors are 68kohm(2.40 aspect ratio) not the 56kohm(1.78 aspect ratio). they also used wima caps, the red ones in certain places. these are better performing caps than the stock marquee's. and added some decoupling EL caps over the power pins on some other chips.

Karmat, There is more details for the CVA. I am looking for the specific Ultra CVM schematics. Once i get them I can give you more info, or if i decide to take my CVM out of the Longbow. Once i do that I'll make a list of specific parts and values. This might be a nice project to convert one of my stock CVM's to Ultra CVM's and post it on my marquee thread. I also think its possible to then convert a Marquee non ultra to an ultra with the addition of just the FGM board and some more mods to the HDM and then fly wires from the mother boards CMV ribbon connectors to the mother board connectors for the FGM and HDM since they are the same connectors and just adding fly wires to the unused pins on those connectors could do it. then you would not need to look for ultra UMB or BMB boards.

I made the mod to VDM board, adding the exact resistor, condenser and fly wire in the right position (many thanks to forumer menec, who gave me detailed pics and even the stuff needed), but I had no luck in restoring geometry issues of my 9500 ultra: I have no possibility to change top and bottom picushion/keystone. So, I think it's not sufficient to mod the VDM board, but it's necessary to modify the convergence board too, to get ultra geometry function (I remember that all the other components of the projector are genuine Ultra, but the heatsink boards are not Sad ).
Any help (pics and components needed to take a non Ultra convergence board to Ultra)?

Received these info from Tse (Scott), who was, as usual very kind and helpful, and with his permission, I post them on the forum. It would be nice if someone could post detailed pics of CVA Ultra board...

Yes, the convergence amp has to have the flywire and three resistors to have the top and bottom pin/key.

This picture shows most of the mod:

The resistors are 680 ohm. 1/8 watt or 1/4 watt parts will be okay.

One resistor is for the red vertical amplifier. One end connects to R127, the end of R127 that connects to the center pin of Q112.

Another resistor is for the green vert amp. One end connects to R327/center pin Q312.

Third resistor is for the blue vert amp. Connect one end to R527/center pin Q512.

The other end of the three 680 ohm resistors connects to P7 pin 18. Look on the solder side of the circuit card and you will see one solder pad for P7 is square. The others are round. The square pad is pin 1. The other pins are numbered like this:


1 3 5 7 9 11 13 15 17 19.....................

o o o o o o o o o o
2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20.................

I don't have a board to take pictures from. You might ask someone on the forum to post one to make what I have written clear.
