Occasionally I focus the three tubes a bit. Then save.

This time I did the focus and when the image came back it's only partially filling my screen and maybe 12" of the left side of the image is cut off.

I believe I had inadvertently selected some other memory setting somehow. The test patterns for calibration fill the screen, but the movie image does not, if that makes sense.

Anyone have a guess what boneheaded maneuver I may have done here?

Thanks so much.

Ted

If image is cutoff then blanking comes to mind. Is the image shifted over or is it 12 inches of black?

Thanks for the question. The image is simply cutt off at the left. No black band, just the end of the image.

I have no earthly idea. But I wasn't in a sub-menu that would have accessed such a thing. That's just it. I was simply adjusting the R&B on G and saved it. It's like I'm on some different memory setting or such. Can't be too much, since I'm not brave enough to push many buttons.

Are you sure nothing changed at the source end?

Sounds like a new signal to me.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the thought. Same source. I had a BR disc in the player, on pause while I did the calibration. I'm gonna have to bring in someone much smarter than I am. Not my wife, either.

I'm pretty smart when it comes to setup and calibration... can't say if I am generally smarter than you or not though Wink

I am usually available for Michigan if you want to hire me.

That someone should be Craig Ted. If not the best, he's definitely one of the best.

he's not only a very experienced calibrator, he technically understands all those little deep things that are critical to why and what makes the best image.

Plus, by the time you make this happen, he'll probably be bringing something special when he comes..Wink

I agree with Mike About Craigs calibration skills. TOP NOTCH calibrator and all around person. Definitely a person you want to have as a calibrator and friend.

Sony has not had the dreaded part for the YA board for years. It is no longer available anywhere, well not yet Mr. Green

If this part fails you need a used board which are going up in price because of the scarcity.

If ic421 fails there is no available part to replace it. And it has failed multiple times already. If it fails then you have to find a used board. Or a damaged board that might hopefully still have a good ic421.

SONY DOES NOT HAVE THIS PART!!!!!

If you send your YA board to Sony for repair and ic421 checks bad, Sony returns your board unrepaired with a note stating your board is not repairable!!!!!

Here's a good read on the subject:

So anyone with a G90 or considering buying one or considering mods is really just rolling dice. Maybe I should just sell my G90?

I wouldn't go that far. In the scheme of things there has only been a low number of failures and from most comments, they were on low hours machines meaning if you have some hours on yours then the chance of failure is lower.

There is a more likely hood of a 1 or 2 thousand dollar digital failing before your G90. Times 10.........
