So, I'm thinking of stacking the two 9500 Ultras that I have here, 2002 vintage. Shite, these are nice sets!
Anyways, the question is, I'm going to re-rig the projectors on the ceiling over the holidays. If I decide just to use one, what will I lose assuming let's say that I run only one set for a few months, if I happen to sell one? I might also throw up a G90 in place of a second Ultra if I happen to sell one.
(Yes, I know, wow factor, 1300 lumens, blah blah. The question is more about offsetting the set permanently off center...
I have an 8' wide screen, matte white. Soon to be a Stewart with motorized variable masking..hahahahaahha!

I don't think you'll do any weird wear since you wont have to crank contrast stacking. Just get them as close together as possible, and if you have two acons to throw in use the stacking program the marquees have. I was reading about it in the service manual, sounds pretty cool. you connect them via rs232. I am using the VDC marquee programmer now with both PJ's connected via rs232 and then i only have to connect one to a computer for control of both. Nice

I will also try to mount the Unistrut to be able to turn the projectors if I want to blend. That's wayyy down the road, can't afford crap right now, but spring is looking good.

Curt
Sidestacking may not work on a screen under nine feet wide; you would run out of range of the geometry adjustments, particularly h linearity and v key. Sidestacking also requires the projectors be close together, making it difficult to get the sides off.

Yeah, the only way you could use a long horizontal unistrut mount and convert from side-by-side stack to single projector is if your throw was the same for both... So, for instance, if you went from a 126"x54" scope stack or blend to a 96"x54" single.
You could easily do an over/under stack, though!
But, be careful... The brightness and wicked contrast is addictive... Once you get a taste, you won't want to give it up.

AWWW c'mon! This is Curt we're talking about. He'd sell you the light switches outta the theater and solder them together for you if he thought he'd get the projector sale

Are the Marqees the only ones able to do the side by side stack?....What about using other brands utilizing the software on a PC? And by the way....I agree one the bigger screen....but I also see what Curt is after...he wants it bright too....so he is choosing the middle of the field.

Basically, you need stepless Scheimpflug for excellent side-side focus, lots of geometry control (specifically lots of keystone and linearity, and on green), and really solid, stable convergence so you don't have drift. The requirements pretty much limit you mostly to the newest/best machines. Some of the Marquees, the G90, and some of the Marquees are side-by-side stackable. You might be able to do it with a G70 or XG too, but it wouldn't be ideal from a sharpness standpoint.

Crabs right, the one thing i remember about my up down stack was it was brighter for sure but not as sharp. you need Ken Whitcomb spending 12 hours per projector to get it sharp!!! Right Cliff
That is where the blend is awesome, sharpness compared to a stack. I still have work inthat department but thats whats fun about this hobby. set it up, watch it for a bit then start over

Well, I will be getting another projector exactly like the one I have which is a Barco 1208s/2 with Iris 3. I will change over to D-145 lenses on both for the side adjustments to be made easier and fix haloing. I will be doing the PC version. This should work fine. I'll let you know and post pics as I will be doing this after Christmas when the Kids are gone visiting their grandparents.
