I have a chance to pick up a DTV-1100 locally. It would replace my G70. 3500 Hrs, it needs a new green tube, all else seems to be ok. Any issues or concerns? Tube availability?

You're getting it free, right ? Cause personally, it needing a tube and all would make its value a LOT less than normal...

Other than it being a 9" set, why would you want to replace your G70 with it ??

I *think* there's tubes on ebay right now that will work in it...

My G70 doesn't resolve 1080p. Not even close. The Runco/Barco 1209s will, I understand. If that's not true, I won't bother. Green on the Barco has wear, but is usable as is. I just need to know what I'm in for getting a new green tube.

Anywhere from $1200 to $1700 depending if you mount the raw tube yourself or if you want someone to do it.

The G70 will indeed resolve 1080p, it either isn't set up right or has an issue.

What he said...

Have you looked on ebay for tubes ??

There are a few on there right now, not sure if you'd be able to use them with that projector though...

PS: That's a pretty good asking price, you'll likely get it for less since its been for sale for a couple weeks now too...

Thanks Curt, that gives me a good idea of what $$ I need to consider.
Interesting that the G70 will resolve 1080p.
I've been running my HTPC at 960 x 1440 on a 16:9 screen and the G70 resolves that nicely.
I'm currently running 1080p, but the pj isn't fully resolving it. Picture looks great, btw.
I spent a long time on registration and focus, use almost no zone, (10 clicks max) so I think the setup is a good as the pj electronics let it be.
What am I missing?

There's a difference between "resolves" and "fully resolves", Curt... The G70 definitely won't "fully resolve" 1080p. It's very good, but either the tubes are too small or the lenses aren't up to the task of resolving 1080p (16:9) or 1200p (4:3). If it did, there would be no need for the 9" machines. I've got my machine dialed in pretty damn well too, and I definitely can't see scan lines at 1080p. That's probably optical, though I haven't taken the lenses off to verify.

The MTF is undoubtedly superior on the 1209s, and would give you a sharper 1080p. I don't know how good the video chain is in the 1209s to say how much better the horizontal MTF would be.

OK, I'll agree with that. No question that a 9" set will look better.

BTW, I did a careful setup on a G90 yesterday that I sold locally. Wholly crap! Nice pix!

1300 hours, slight wear on the green, but we put the image within the large wear pattern.

I have a Runco DTV-1100 and I am very happy with it (actually I got two but one is a parts mule). To me it would all come down to price and how bad the green was. Runco specified putting the project further back than most so frequently the wear area is pretty small. My Runco had a slightly worn green but it was a small area so I couldn't operate within it and it drove me nuts so I had to replace the green. If you are referring to the one I think you are that green would need to be replaced in my opinion at least based on the pictures posted. Assuming your G70 has no wear I might pass at the current price + a new tube. But I am a cheap bas---d.

Edit: Just noticed that it has been posted for a couple of weeks, that might give you some negotiating room.

I'll bide my time, no hurry. I haven't contacted the seller yet, and won't be able to move on it for awhile. If somebody else buys it, so be it. I'm just in the research phase now.

My green will certainly show some wear, I've got close to 3000 hours on it. But I just calibrated greyscale and I am able to get it very flat with peak white at 12 ft lamberts. After that the blue can't keep up. So I've got no real reason to upgrade except the promise of better PQ.

I've got the G70 pretty close to the screen - 116" from the green lens to the screen top for a 106" diagonal 16:9 screen. The raster is within mm of the tube face edges. I'll have to check on the throw distance for the 1209s - if it is longer it could be a deal killer for me. I've got maybe 6" to move back with the Unistrut mount.

I don't know the relative throw distances but that wear area looks similar to mine before the tube replacement. It would have been impossible for me to mount my projector far enough back to stay within that wear area. As point of reference it would have been about 8-12" further than Barco's recommendation.
