Ok, so this morning I woke up thinking about a little experiment on the cheap, but effective approach to building an HTPC that a) is dedicated for Blu-ray playback from disk, a setup that is fanless, and with a divine ability to get the most out of my NEC XG1351LC (1080P?). This unit would be placed close to the projector, but continues to question the ability to successfully output RGBhv from the HTPC vs. using HDMI--as a constraint condition of the HTPC itself.
I'm think of placing the slim case right underneath the projector, which would make access (putting disk in and taken it back out), while using the vicinity to minimize cable length. Yet, to accept this I think a passive cooling approach is necessary. The biggest obstacle in considering a slim case is the inability (?) to use a separate video card unless some sort of riser is afforded.
I know some of you are running 1080P on this projector at 48 Hz, and this is somehow achieved by going the HTPC route. Yet, cooling of an HTPC means either using active cooling (fans), of through use of low power consuming components. I suppose I could relocate the unit to a cabinet (hutch?) that is still in the room, but in the back of the room, but I am not sure if that is any more of benefit or not.
How are those of you using an HTPC in the room for dedicated Blu-ray playback doing it? What is the lowest-consumer power processor (and hence the least requiring cooling) that can be gotten away with? I'm figuring some sort of ATI 4xxx fanless graphics would due the trick.
