My ceiling is 8'8" and the PJ is suspended by 9" threaded rods. I did not want to drop it more than that, but I find the resultant screen height too high. You have to look UP to watch the movie! I used Barco LENS program recommendations for 16:9 screen.

How much vertical raster shift (down) is safe to use without royally messing up the geometry? I got a new screen today so I need to redo size and geometry anyway, and I'd like to mount the screen lower this time if possible.

Damn, you have to crouch down just to walk around in the basement!!

That's how it was in the house I grew up in. Old Iowa farmhouse with unfinished basement, stone basement walls, etc. That was no big deal when it was just a dank hole, and besides I was short then. Then my parents finished off part of it and squeezed a 7' pool table between the wall and the monster oilburner furnace. I think the ceiling ended up being about 6' - 6'2" or so, and I'm 6'4". That wasn't too bad when playing pool -- the furnace 20" from the pool table was a much bigger challenge!! -- but it was much more of a "headache" when we put a ping-pong surface on top of the pool table! Laughing

i'm not familiar with the barco as much as the NEC, but could you not tilt the barco down and then adjust the image with keystone? point focus would be required too i guess.

Funny how things jogg the memory. Back when I was selling houses in Phila ,I sold one that had ceilings that were 6'8" throughout the home. The story went the man who owned it, and built it himself, felt since that was as high as he could reach with the hammer, that was all the taller the ceilings need to be.

And he did own it till he died, it was an estate sale. Surprised

The home was a catalog order home from Sears & Roebuck, and the catalog was displayed on the kitchen counter for validation. Shocked

Now that was an independent thinking man Thumbs Up

I bet he was mad when the lumber yard would not sell him undersize materials Wink

Sure, if that's preferable. I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb like, don't exceed 80 on a scale of 0-100 for vertical shift (with 50 being the nominal setting). It would be nice to know this before doing a full geometry setup and convergence only to find something is maxed out.

They say the PJ should be level, but if there's 16:9 tube wear then I guess the tilt method might be the only option.

Point focus won't help if you tilt the projector. You need Scheimpflug for that.

A stair opening with a projector and FRIDGE on it!!!! Exactly the same... Wink

If it falls on you, don't think that get's you out of coming to town for some home brew. Razz

Oh, my ceiling is 12 feet. My basement is useless for a theatre. I'm using Chief mounts to lower it. Still gotta watch your head though. It's at about 6 feet. because we want the screen lower without having to crane our necks to "look up"

Just tapped my latest stout and it is awesome...I planning to have it for Christmas company but I doubt it will last Smile
