Heyyyyy.. success!
I get a massive sense of accomplishment when I get serial ports to talk to one another. This was one big 6 hour techy cluster****.
First off, the Barco software won't load properly into my laptop. The antivirus software (AVG) sensed that the C prompt was a trojan, and wouldn't allow the software to open. I had to delete the AVG program in order for the Barco software to work.
then, I couldn't get the Barco software to sense a working projector. Then it started working, not quite sure why.
Then I couldn't find where the command prompt was to be entered to flash new software into the controller board.
Barco was kind enough to email me the latest program, and hten I had to copy the new flash software from an auto exec disc to my laptop. The flash file was loaded onto the disc as a .BIN file, the program wanted to see a .bin file, so I had to rename the file before it uploaded. After a lot of swearing, throwing cats off of workbenches that managed to knock my only working 909 controller board on the floor (!!!), and more swearing, now the new flash software is loading into the projector.
I'm so excited!
For you computer guys that are reading this going 'WTF, that is soooooo easy Curt', then a big raspberry to you. Me getting computer stuff to work is like you guys converging your first CRT.

So did any of those controller boards come back to life?

Curt, you did the right thing. I had AVG for years and when I changed to Avast I found out there were a bunch of viruses on my PC that AVG missed.
Download Avast. It's free and easy.

Well, so far we're batting 1000 with failure. It seems that the BArco upload program crashed when the laptop went to screen saver mode, and I freaked, as the projector now wouldn't turn on. Luckily I am practicing with a flaky controller board with other issues, so I changed the screen saver to kick in after 45 minutes, and am now uoloading the new software again. 550 blocks out of 4600 loaded so far.
I hate this computer stuff.

Can't you speed up the serial port? That would speed up the process a lot! Or is that not possible with a brainless projector?
Let me know how it turns out. I only know about the process from reading about it, but never have had the opportunity to do it myself.
Have you tried to flash a Cine9 software into an 909 controller board? Would be cool if that could word, would make the 909 much quieter for HT purposes.
How much software versions do you have?

Thanks, now I'm the guinea pig for the CRT world.
Right now I only have one software version, and I don't even know what it is. I'll find out once it's loaded.
I will also try speeding up the communication, but right now it's working.
I think the Cine 9 needs fan control PC boards to control those fans, but again, I'll check more on this.
You all realize that this information will NOT come cheaply if I have to learn this with little help..

Upload successful, I've changed the software in the one nonworking controller board from version 1.1 to 2.2. Interestingly enough, that not only changed the opening menus dramatically (which freaked the heck out of me until I realized the 'normal' menu was one layer 'under' the opening page menus), it also cured the glitch that I was seeing in the convergence grid.
Man, I think this is as exciting (to me) as repairing a G90 YA board!

I wouldn't mess with the speed setting. This is when write failures occur. Sometimes slower is better... I like it slooooooooooo. Anyways, if its working, leave it alone.

I actually tried 19,200, and it didn't work. Seems like the data transfer is slow. NOw working on my SECOND 909 controller board. This one has massive issues, and I think that a data flash will cure some, if not all of the issues.

Good to hear that this works!
I know of one Cine9 owner who had to get a new controller from Barco because his was dead. Barco said he needed a new controller for €4500. Het got the controller and is happy ever since.
The Barco repair tech never did try a frimware upgrade..........
Keep up the good work Curt!

Well, the firmware upgrade did not repair hte two dead controllers I have. One won't communicate with the computer at all, teh other one did upload the new firmware, but is still dead.
Still, I'm making progress, and as soon as the board extenders show up that fit the 909, I'll be able to dive into the hardware issues on those boards.
