Issue at hand – when I attempt to power up the unit the green light in the back starts to flash with a very low level whistling sound. After about 5 flashes the green light turns to red and the system shuts down.
Please help me prevent further hair loss due to this problem.
Thank you in advance.
FYI- although I love the system, I am far from understanding it.

It sounds like the SMPS is bad, or the set has a short in it somewhere. REmove each board including the convergence tray and see if the pulsing stops when you pull out one of them. If not, it's the SMPS.

BTW, I did email you back last week, and just emailed you again. Let me know if you didn't get it...

Gentelman -
I was very excited to get home tonight and attempt to isolate the issue. The kids held DVD's in their hands as daddy(me) pretended as if I knew what I was doing.
I pulled out each board including the convergence tray and there was no change. The fans do go on with or without pulling any of the boards. The green light flashes a few times and with 10 to 20 seconds the entire system powers down.
Still pulling my hair out.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Well, then there is your answer. It's the SMPS.
Curt's the guy to help you and he will respond to your emails when he has an opportunity. Best to deal with him at this point.
.... I think the kids can put down the DVD's.... this is not something that is fixed by a small adjustment but it is fixable !
Best of luck
