I will be making my own custom screen and I am new to this CRT stuff with 6 months experience. So bear with me....Shows in HD and movies seem to be giving me constant different sizes and I end up with bars on the top and bottom unless I adjust resolution. What must I do for a constant size. Some movies fill it and some don't. Could it be my basic Power DVD software?

Movies have different aspect ratios. Some will fill a screen, some are cinemascope, and will leave black bars top and bottom.

The best way to deal with it is to make adjustable masking out of black felt.

Depending on how anal you are about the correct aspect ratio, there's a couple of ways to do it:

1) Set different memories up for different apsect radios, and stretch or squeeze a bit to keep the height constant.
2) Overshoot the images a bit, and use the electronic blanking in the set to crop the top and bottom of the image.

I'm one of those anal people who thinks you should see it like the director intended you to see it. Would you crop a Monet so it would fit your living room wall better? Stretch a Picasso so it fits your hallway better?

Option #1 would look like ass on scope movies.
Option #2 reduces resolution and you miss a big portion of the composition.

Don't molest the movie to make it fit your screen!

Damn rights I would. THe fireplace is in the way otherwise, and it's cheaper to cut canvas than rebuilding brick. Thumbs Up Mr. Green
