i wanted to see a movie tonight, but my 1292 never switched on :
when i push the green button, nothing happen : the crt stay off, with the red led on the back still on.
no error message, no noise from the inside.
I tried to disconnect the power wire, nothing better.
last time i used it, it has worked without any problem (few days ago).
i am not a technician, i don't really know what to do to troubleshoot this issue.
please help....

It will either be the LVPS power supply or something is wrong with the YA board between the red and green tubes in the card cage. Reseat all the boards in the card cage between the R and G tubes, and try it again.

thanks Curt,
but i am a very newbie in electronic (I know that it is dangerous to go inside a TT and a newbie should think twice before buying a crt, but I like my 1292)
what is the LVPS? I guess it is the block located under the tube for power supply? with two fans in the front?
Where the YA board is located? how to reset the boards in the card cage?
Sorry for this question, but I don't want to do something wrong...
One suggested me on another forum that it could be a relay in the power supply? does it makes sense for you?

Ok, I have found the YA cage and plug out-plug in the 3 cards. Nothing change.
When i plug in the smallest card, a red led on the card light on for 1 sec.
something i didn't say :
my crt is plugged on a PC1270 remote control. when I turn on the crt with its on button (directly on the crt, not from the pc1270), the PC1270 switch on as well but not the crt itself.
any other idea????

You did do this with the power turned off, right?
It sounds like your power supply is bad. That's located under the lenses under the front cover. I don't have any spares, but can most likely repair yours if you want to send it over.

NOt exactly, the front button on 1. but the crt turned off.
ok, i will dismount the power supply.
is there a way to check if it is the power supply that is wrong before i send it to you : as I am located in France, it is far away to send it to you if it is not th eproblem.
how much it will cost to fix it?

I come back with some news :
good news is that the power supply is ok. bad news is that the problem iss still there.
Anybody has an idea to try to troubleshoot this issue?
Curt, no problem to send you parts, but I think that due to distance, we should ry to located the problem before thinking about sending my TT parts after parts in Canada...
I have an electronic technician close to me, but he is not a specialist of this equipment. HE checked the power supply and didn't fingd any problem.

I wonder if the connected switcher doesn't cause any problems ...
When I had a switcher with a 1272 I used the switcher to power on the 1272 and not the other way like you do.
Is there a special reason for using this switcher like a long cable run?
This switcher limits the bandwidth the 1292 has, you could get more out of the 1292.

of course, i've tried to unplug the switcher to test if it was caused the problem. but not...
I use the switcher only for the remote control relay and for sd sources. for HD, I am wire with hdmi cable.

no, he is just reparing tv and other electronic staff. i have only one 1292 and i can't try it in another.
HE checked th component and the weldings. He has test the voltage and so on... components are good. He fix some welding, but he doesn't think they are bad anyway.

There is a led display with 2 digits (88) on top of the 1292 left of the key pad.
It shows error codes when you start up the 1292.
Using this error codes you may be able to narrow down the problem ....
When the 1292 runs normal the display is off, an error stays on the display until it is solved

Red light on the switcher is on or the red light on the projector is on?
Is there any indication that the projector is getting power? Where are the fuses in a 1292???

the red light on the switcher. The power supply has been tested and is ok. I don't know where and how to test if the projector is getting power.
I know that there is one located need the power cable. is there any other elsewhere?
Who knows where is located the relay that switch on and off the projector (on wich card?)

Curt pretty much answered this already. First you must have standby voltage to the YA board. The YA board then turns on the rest of the power supply when on is selected.
If your tech had the supply running to test outputs then he jumped the relay to get it running. But this doesn't test the standby voltage that the YA needs.
So you either still have a bad power supply or bad YA board. Or maybe even something else...........

If the PS block has been removed and placed back you'd better check if all the connectors on the 2 boards on top of the PS are seated tight.
Then if the display on top doesn't work when switching on the 1292 it has no power.
It is feed from one of the 2 boards on top of the PS so maybe one of the cables is bad/broken or one of the 2 boards has a problem (bad solder joint?).

I have only given the PS to my reparatory. ANd it is still by him. So I didn't use it again since he checked it.
I have now removed the two cards located on the PS to give them to him and check it if everything is correct with the soldiers and components.
I will also give to him the YA board. I have the feeling that there must be something wrong with this card. If you say that it is this card that control the power of the whole projector, I think that it may be this card that is bad.
As I have unplugged a lot of connector on the 2 front cards, I anticipate some difficulties when I will plug it back. Is there a scheme that show all the connections? ( I have the service manual, but not after me as I have gave it to my reparatory).
hope is still there...

If you didn't un-tie the cables then they are more or less still in place.
Most connectors have different # pins and can't be exchanged.
When needed I can take a picture of my PS and I remember I found one on the net when I assembled my 1292.
It didn't switch on (fans started shortly) because a cable between the 2 top boards was missing.

How novel. A projector with no fuses.
