Hello,

I got a G70 early October. After a week I started the pj first time. I could go to the Service Menu but was not able to change any settings. To get out of the Service Menu was not possible, so I switched to standby and then stopped it.

Last week I tried it again and nothing happened. After starting it showes for one second 88 on display than it changed to standby.

Yesterday I tried it again and pressed on and off sometimes on the controllpanel. Now it started and I could use the normal menu but not the Setup menu. After about 2 Min. it stopped and on the display error codes 23 24 29 36 were seen one after another.

Today it was not possible to start it again, only standby and no codes.

I got another G70 working fine. Is it possible to use some Boards from them to check the damaged one without any risk for the good Boards? I would be totaly said if my second G70 would be damaged too.

Another Idea is to test a EA Board I have free for replacement. Would that help for testing error codes?

Best wishes

At this point I have to ask. Do you have any electronics knowledge?

Also where are you located at?

Like macgyver said, do you have any troubleshooting experience?

You should NOT keep trying to turn the machine on and off if it gives you an error code. The error codes come up for a reason: To tell you there is a problem. If you ignore it, and keep trying to turn it on and off, you risk creating more problems, which sadly, is probably exactly what you did.

Don't try to go any further without assistance!

Hello,

I come from Germany.

My only experience in troubleshooting is to change a EA Board in March this year.

The only error code I have at the moment is 29. The other disappeared after changing polarisation to up.

A friend told me it must be the dallas chip with an empty battery. So I have to change that first.
Where can I get the right one?

No, he's wrong.

You have a bad B board. Swap it from the other set, or I can repair that one.

Hello,

thank you for your help.

I checked polarisation and nothing changed.

Now I replaced E-Board and now I was able to make a soft reset (10 sec Reset Button) and voila I could use first time remote control and was able to go to service menu. At the moment I saved my setting, G70 stopped and changed to Standby without any error code.

Today I restarted G70 and I could start and stopp it by softbutton without any problems and no error codes shown on display.
I didn't check Service Mode.

What can I now do to find the error. Is the old Dallas chip responsible for this Problem?

Sorry, you're on your own. You don't answer our questions, and continue to 'troubleshoot' by doing things that you're not supposed to do.

I won't give advice to those that don't follow instructions, sorry!

Hello,

sorry for misunterstanding.

I have no experience in fixing G70 but I repaired TV-sets and amplifier in the past.

Regarding error Code 36 I remembered that the seller used the g70 on ceilling. So I changed polarisation and forgot to switch the button to down. After changing position of the swith the error code disapaired.

The second G70 (running excellent) is my main pj to watch movies. So I don*t wanna damage it.

The new one should be one for edgeblending with the other.

Yesterday I changed the B-Board incl. all ass. from the good G70. The Bad G70 started and worked for 1 hour without problems. The good G70 with the bad B-Board worked the same time but with total dark picture (Kontrast 80, bright 50).
After stopping both no error code was shown.
Today I checked the bad G70 once again. After 20 Min. it stopped without any error code (the new b-board inside) and could not started again.

So I changed boards again and my good G70 worked as well as before. So I hope you have an idea what I can try next?

Best wishes

When it shuts down with no error code, will it turn right back on again when you push power? Please make your answers as clear as possible.

Hello,

no, it is not possible to restart it directly. It stay in "Stand by". I first have to stop it completely for some time (exp. 1-2 hours) than I can restart it.

I have never heard of this fault before. I would start swapping boards from your other set to narrow this down.

It is possible that you damaged the CPU boards (Ya and Yb) by doing the full reset. I never recommend doing that, ever. There's never any need to, at least not from what I've seen here.

It kinda sounds temp related. I would open the cover, get a shelf or floor fan and aim it at the projector and turn them on and see if the projector stops shutting down.

Or swap boards like Curt said.

Hello,

first I will try it with a floor fan, should the pj shut down again, I swap the boards.

I keep you informed.

best wishes

Looks like YA and/or YB board random/thermal failure to me. Since these two boards works closely together, check the connectors contacts quality of the links between these two boards.

Hello,

thank you for your help. I got a new NVRAM Battery and replaced the old one.

First I started pj. with open case. It worked without problems for four hours. Than I stopped and restarted it without any probs. Afterwards I closed the case and it worked for another 2 1/2 hours before I stopped the G70. Today I checked it again and it worked fine for one hour.

So I believe the problem seemed to be to an old NVRAM. The G70 is build in 1997.

The only little problem I have now is the lost serial no. and hours on tubes.

I read in another Thread from axatax the following:

You can duplicate the contents of the existing NVRAM by replacing the factory data EPROM with the existing NVRAM module, and placing the new NVRAM module in the old NVRAM module's socket. From this point, you would press and hold the button as in the previous step. When the PJ reboots, shut it down, and place the factory data EPROM back in it's original position. This will preserve your settings.

Unfortunately I have no idea where to find the factory data Eprom on the YB Board? Can you help me?

Another possibility would be a eeprom reader.

Are the datas still available on the old NVRAM? So I would buy an eeprom reader to save them.

Best wishes

OK, that makes sense.

You can easely insert your PJ serial number and Chassis/tubes hours counter inside the new NOVSRAM chip using a programmer. I gave all the necessary informations in a thread on AVS forum a while back:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13430882#post13430882
Also you can try to copy the first sector of the old/damaged NOVSRAM to the new chip as well.

John
