More %$#&^%$# counterfeit parts!
In my ongoing saga to repair this &^$%$ DWIN projector that had a shorted ballast, I bought a 'new' Osram ballast from an eBay seller in China with good f/b that sells nothing but bulbs and ballasts. It arrived in good shape, and as per another thread here recently, I installed it. It worked, but would turn the screen blue and then the set would shut down after about 30 seconds.
Online posts and assistance from Mac pointed towards the bulb. Well, today I got another DWIN projector in with no light output. I swapped bulbs into the first projector, and of course it shuts down as well, so it's not teh bulb. I swapped over the main power supplies between sets and that's not it either.
So I call Osram, as on close inspection the two ballasts don't look the same construction wise. Not only is the parts layout different, there's no official 'Osram' sticker on the PC board, even though 'Osram' is etched right into the board. I now suspect a counterfeit board. After 2 calls to various departments to Osram USA, they tell me that indeed, there are Chinese factories cranking out fake Osram ballasts.
So... I've got about 8 emails to other sellers including a local company that sells DLP projector parts (mainly flat screens, but maybe I'll luck out), and to the eBay seller, in hopes they'll honor the warranty (if there is one).
Just FYI...

I guess this fits under the PM I sent you that you have to have the correct ballast with the correct bulb.
For those of you wanting to change you own bulb with an unmounted one even with the same specs but a different manufacturer, this is a reason it usually wont work.
