|

Ok, I'm in the process of building up my home theatre / family room and I'm trying to get a definitive opinion on my surround options. My back wall is also my rear entry to my house, so room speakers are not an option, and my wife and I are afraid in-wall surrounds make that back wall way to busy since it will also have the shoe bench and wall coat tree. So I'm leaning towards in ceiling surrounds, but I don't want to compromise the localization of the sound so that it all sounds like it's coming from overhead. Because of that, I'm leaning towards the ones that have anglable tweeters, or are mounted in their housings already at 30 degrees. For that I'm interested in the Paradigm Reference SA -15R-30.
Any opinions from those who have been there and done that? My search of AVS doesn't provide much, but seems like quite a few with design contraints are doing it. For more info, my room is 18 feet long X 12 feet wide. My screen and seating area is in parallel with the 12 foot walls. Thoughts and heckles welcome!

If it is for your main theater I would not recommend these but it almost sounds like this is a secondary TV viewing space.
I have 2 pairs of the Monoprice in my vaulted ceilings and they sound way better than they cost. The tweeters are aim-able but with the vault and the way my seating is the angle of the vault worked perfectly. For just surround duty I wouldn't even mind using these in my theater assuming you have the LFE handled by a dedicated sub. I haven't found a need for a sub with TV viewing yet and haven't been disappointed on the rare low sound effects from Fox NFL or other DD sequences on primetime TV.
If nothing else...you could get them and then throw them out if they aren't up to snuff. I just have a hard time spending that much on surrounds.

Thanks for the input guys. This is going to be my main theatre. My house doesn't have the room for a truely dedicated movie theatre, so this space is my main TV and movie room. It just so happends the rear entry to the house is in the back of it.
I'm keeping my Infinity Studio Monitors for the LR and C, and I have a matching sub for the low end. I'd love to rework all of my speakers and my receiver too, but the bulk of my budget went to making my Marquee 1080P worthy, so I have space out upgrading the rest of my system. I'll check these others out. I also had a concern on spending that much cash on surrounds. I'm all for more bang for the buck!

If you want to make home theater with well sound system then its great because i have some idea according to your room space.
First of all take one woofer of creative company with 2.1 channel so it will gives better effect.
when you are gong to play your system at that time just attached with it.You are feeling great sound.

Thanks. I actually went with the Speakercraft AIM wides. Great speakers, and a great company to deal with. For now I am keeping my Infinity Studio Monitors for the fronts and center. When cash allows, I will look at replacing those as well.
