Yes. you should feed a signal to it.
NECs do odd things without a signal.

Happy new year to you all guys!
Thanks for the replies, I've booked today for some work in the cinema room - i.e. mounting the screen and getting the projector up and running - initially off a desk, then perhaps ceiling mount it. Guess that's just being overly time-optimistic though, would be happy if I can get an image projected and do a rough setup to test functionality and all with the fan mod in place. Also have to test the new HDMI card
Will see what happens with the sound with a source connected - I never noticed it before and perhaps it's indeed just due to the lack of signal.
Cheers

Btw Mark were those temperatures in Celsius? Here we have everything white and around -10 (Celsius)

Allright managed to get the main things back together and had a picture from the new HDMI card
Will have to start from scratch and start by optimizing phosphor usage, then finding the proper distance for my PJ to the screen. First off though I'm going to have to rectify the 60mm fans I installed in the powersupply - they sound like jet engines, obviously by no means quit(er than the original ones)
Quick question: does any of you guys know/remember whether those PSU fans are supposed to draw air into the PSU, or blow it out?
