|
|
I have just taken delivery of a set of HD10F lenses from a G90 (from haydnG90) and I am so impressed with the difference in image quality I just had to say so. I wondered for a long time what the fuss was about figuring the HD300 lenses I was using could not be that much different to the so called better lenses and I just couldn't understand why people would pay so much more for HD10F G90 lenses. Now I know. The first thing I noticed was the tint on the lenses is blue rather than the green on the HD300s. I installed the HD10F lenses right away and the instant I focused the first lens the difference was evident, it's just so sharp. After setting up all three lenses I sat back and watched a music DVD and was just blown away by the clarity.
From my perspective they are worth every cent and I would recommend this upgrade to anyone wanting the best image quality available.
Thanks Haydn.

Even upscaled... assuming you're doing absolutely wonderful upscaling to 960p, it's pretty easy to resolve every bit of detail with pretty lousy lenses. If the lenses made that much of a difference, the other ones were screwed up somehow. Doesn't make sense.

If the lenses are that much better then the overall image of upscaled DVD should look worse. The only thing that will be sharper is the scanlines and who wants to see them. Now on the other hand, if you tell me that the internal test patterns you used to set up 960P looked sharper then yes. I have no doubt that if you have a static image of a windows desk top up you could tell the difference but not full motion video even in HD. Perhaps your original lenses were not set up as well as you thought or perhaps wishfull thinking comes to mind

That's funny.
I don't have a reference point switching from inferior lenses to the OEM HD-10F's I have on my G90, but swapping the HD-8's to NEC 144's made an immediate impact optically. They were far sharper with both test patterns and real video. Just because you get a sharper image doesn't automatically translate into a worse image by making the imperfections easier to see, which appears to be the inference here. IMHO and from what I've seen with my own eyes.
Glad you like the lenses Keith.
btw there are some cheaply priced HD10F's on Ebay at the moment, but I don't think they're the G90 version judging by the finish on the body. Perhaps 1292 HD10F's.

The internal test pattern generated by the Lumagen does look sharper. Thats what was noticeable first up. If everyone is saying at 1080i a set of HD300 is a s good as HD10F I am not sure what to tell you except it looks far better to me and I hope its not wishfull thinking because this was not a cheap exercise.
For those that think it should not make any difference can I ask if you have tried it and i am not asking to be rude I am asking because I am sure a lot of what is said comes from theory (well thats a theory) rather than practice. I spent a lot of time with the HD300 lenses trying to get the best focus out of them but they some how still looked a little fuzzy and the HD10Fs don't.

What really matters here is you installed them and like the outcome. That is all that counts. Enjoy your new lenses.

You know it makes sense. I can't enjoy regular DVD on my system anymore. HD-DVD and BR have spoiled us.

So speaking of lenses, what are the best 8" LC lenses(colour corrected), I'd like to replace the ones on my 1200X pro.

The Barcos LC's use a different Lens I think that the HD 10 series walt. Not sure if they are the same as the G70 LC's lenses but the G70 VR lenses are better than the standard G70 lens. I think they are mentioned in the all about lens thread.

The 1200x uses that funny lens with the single focus knob, right?
So you can't use the HD-10 lenses, and I believe the G70, and XG lenses are also different. You might be stuck with what you have.
