SO...
I lusted after a 9" machine for many yrs... I Finally got to a place I could buy one I have and use it but havent mounted it on the ceiling yet. Still preparing for theater remodel work and a terrible lack of time in order to afford toys 
I now have a chance to get a high end digital projector in the $7000 range for free Brand new no strings just owed a favor.
Thinking JVC or Marantz
Would you do it
The 9" throws a great picture the focus hasnt been completly dialed in yet as it is on the floor on a cart and im sure it is capable of a great pic.
I am however using a HTPC and am wondering if the focus will really ever be acceptable for computer use as a digital would be.
I am a CRT snob for color blacks and motion artifact so I will have to demo before deciding but I am really considering it.
The ease of hanging and the look/WAF approval is tilted to digital
I dont know if I need talked out of it or in to it?
Im confused.

Sure take up on the offer,
But DON"T get rid of the CRT.
Use the CRT for movies,
Then mount the digital in front of it, and use it for sports and when the kids watch movies.
I have thought about this as my room is not full light controlled, so the brightness of a digital during the day for non crittical viewing would be great.
My 3 cents.

Keep them all.
CRT's are great for PC use. That's one of their primary designs.
Hook them both up.

I believe what he is saying is that its not really for free even though the is no out of pocket cost to him. He is owed something for something and a projector was offered for payment. Technically there is still a cost.
Am I correct?

I guess it depends what the alternatives are. I guess if I were in your position and could also get, say, a 60" plasma, or some absolutely kick-ass audio system with enough bass to shatter windows in nearby villages, it'd be a tougher call.

I am glad you spelled it out, because I didn't see where he was going.
The decision is based on whatever else is on offer. If you are being offered a Vette or a pj, then I would go with the Vette. Well, unless it is a Chevette.

Bingo! 7K would buy some sweet-ass apmplifiers, Angels-singing-in-your-room quality speakers,or a totall BAD-ass turntable.
Or an LCD that will be worth $1500. in 16 months, your call.

You guys pretty much have it covered.
However I currently have a Kick ass sound system including
Stewart screen
DVDO vp50
sony Blu Ray
Brand new HTPC with mega storage
NHT 3.3s
Revel B15 subs
Macintosh and citation amps
and a BK pre pro.
Crestron 8X
Crestron CP2E
I have more flat panels than I know what to do with. Including 2 60"ers
So really dont need anything else...
Thats why im so torn.
I am also considering some crestron gear for the rest of the house or something else that I havent thought of.
I dont think a vette is an option but anything pro or residential AV in the same range is.
And yes Mac Is right I am owed this as sort of a Thank you Finders fee Cash is really not an option in the situation.
Still confused I guess ill have to stew some more.

HMMM!! Since time seems to an issue for you, how about an installer/calibrator to set up the Runco? I don't think that would eat up the whole $7,000 though. Maybe some Moome gear to convert the HDMI/HDPC content to RGB? Some OTA or cable/sat gear plus a year's worth of cable/sat subscription to HD content. Then you can watch the Broncos win the Superbowl on the really big screen.

How about some calibration equipment? I don't know what your budget is, but a Klein would be a good purchase.

Good idea on the calibrator but i dont know if I can get cash to pay him
I already have Hdmi modded input 3 and HDsat equipment
Keep em coming im sure someone has an idea i havent thought of.
