One odd thing I noticed was the settings for drive and cutoff in the first menu that comes up seemed out of whack... instead of something around 40 for the DRIVE (HIGH) rgb the values were all something like 200, and for the CUTOFF it was all zeros instead of around 400 ( as per this pic: http://www.fixya.com/uploads/Images/05105A3.jpg ).
Could that be contributing in some way ?

According to the part number stickers its assured to be the correct LE: it is labelled with a green sticker "LC-37E" and another sticker which states "ATTENTION: This KS06623 Optical light engine must only be connected in the chassis of sets with the following model numbers: 50V500A, 50VX500, 50C10 and 50V500G. September 17, 2008". It also has a lamp part no. sticker "UX21511" "Jun, 2008" on it as well.

Hey mac,
Out of curiosity I opened up my old LE which I kept for spares... unfortunately, the LCD panel assemblies appear to be "potted" in place. Little metal tabs at all four corner about 1/32" dia poke thru matching 1/8" dia holes in the metal frames on the sides of the central combining glass cube. Presumably in the factory the panels are held/positioned precisely so the three images overlap perfectly, then they get glued in place. I don't see any adjustment screws which would serve to shift the panels to and fro like I have seen in pictures of other optical blocks I googled up.
sigh....Unless there is an electronic adjustment to shift the r or b image relative to g I am likely stuck. Only possible last resort I thought of - which would be risky/stupid in my own mind - would be to scavenge the good blue polarizer out of the new LE, put it in the old LE and see if the convergence is any better.
I am going to try to reset the DRIVE and CUTOFF to their default/recommended values , but I doubt if that will fix things.
...Dave

I was able to dial down the DRIVE to 40 instead of 200, and I did notice a decrease in colour fringing...but not sure if it will last...because when I try to dial the CUTOFF to 400, it refuses to go that high... in fact, although the manual says the adjustment range is 000 to 7FF, when I go beyond 3FF it circles back to 000 and the picture gets completely washed out and I can't read anything any more. Also, with the CUTOFF anywhere higher than 300 the picture is totally washed out. The colour fringing (misconvergence appearance) is worse again as well...
I'll try setting CUTOFF to 200 across the board - maybe with the new redisigned LE the firmware/adjustments in I2C have changed. Maybe with a range of 000 to 3FF it is supposed to be "half way", IE 200 instead of 400.
Do you have any service bulletins speaking of that, Mac ?

There are no service bulletins for this model other then for cleaning LCD panels.
But there is a section that pertains to using the correct light engine in the correct chassis. that number you listed is not shown. So I don't know.
Your pretty much on your own now since Hitachi only states to replace the light engine when problems such as yours occur.

Does anyone know of an external video processor that can do individual R / G / B raster shifts - say 1 to 4 pixels up/down/left/right.... that would fix my problem pronto ! Thanks,
...Dave

Dave. Can you put up a grid pattern and snap a picture of it? I'm in conversation with a guy that rebuilds these.
