THe price drop is to be expected. No one makes any money, then the cowsumer is hyped on the 'next thing' that's a must have, or you're a second class citizen.
Slyvania doesn't make anything themselves, the name was bought out years back as were many other company name brands, so who knows what's exactly in the box. I know the Samsung BR player I bought this summer for an install was 1/2 as heavy as the one I bought last Dec, and I'd expect the $99 ones to have all processing on one 4" X 4" board.

I bought a PS3 with a bad drive about a month ago. I bought a replacement and popped it in and it works fine, but i did learn the hard way that these older single lens models are becoming scarce. With all the stories you guys are telling of BD players going kaput, I'm starting to think I should flip this thing and get one of the newer two lens units that are not so hard get replacement drives for.
