Ok, so I am back on the Anti-Virus program search again. I have been using Kaspersky for the last year, but not sure I want to use it again.
Any suggestions, recommendations?

I'm not crazy about AVG. I currently use Avira Anti-vir -- free, and seems to work well.

I've used AVG. But now I am using Avria personal-free. I like to read MaximumPC, and they recommend Avria for the free anti-virus software.

I used to use NOD32, but stopped because of how badly it was failing for me.. Right now I use Avast (i knows, i knows), mostly because I'm a safe browser, and I know exactly what I download, and Avast provides just enough protection for me.

Is Avria hard on system resources?

For years I used AVG free, but then is started messing up Outlook (crash on exit, common problem, they didn't fix it).
Now I'm using Avast. Seems ok.

I'm still trying to find proof that someone has proven why the need for installation for software is a requirement to be a good AV software.
But as long as Cowsumers continue to move along that slaughter trail then who am I to complain? --Man with pneumatic plunger.

I've used Mcafee along with Firefox and Spysweeper for years and years and have never had any problems. However I never use any spamblockers or other aftermarket protectors as they kill PC preformance.

wallace | What download-to-thumb-drive AV exists that doesn't require an installation in order to use it? Now talking about web-oriented either. Looking for something that can standalone on a portable flash drive.

Hhhmmm. I never thought about it, or tried it.
What do you use via a thumb-drive? It deson't slow down the performance?

Maybe it's just me, but I recently had a virus or something on my pc. Performance was extrmley slow. Mouse and keyboard would feeze for 30-40 seconds sometimes. When I look at the Kaspersky AV report, I could never find any "found virus or trojans". It started about 3 weeks before the 1-year subscription expired.
I fomatted the hard drive, reloaded windows, office, etc.... and did all updates. (Just as a regular "tune-up" I do this probably once every year on all our pcs. But, this pc had just had the tune-up maybe 5 months ago.) Runs like a "bat outta hell" now.
Again, maybe it's just me.
