Hi again,
I've been working at it, switched which port in the HV splitter I was plugging the blue CRT's wire into - and the problem persists. However, the problem abates almost completely when I press the wire down into the HV splitter - only to return when I let up on the pressure.
If anyone else reading has set up a 1272Q before, can they detail whether there is more to inserting the HV wire from the CRT into the HV splitter than just shoving it in as far as it will go? Curt mentioned rotating it - but I've done that until my shoulder couldn't stand doing it any longer, to no effect.
I'd still like to try using some kind of conductive agent. Would a solder pen be unsafe to use for any reason?
Thanks, bye.

Sounds like you either have the wrong connector or have it installed incorrectly. Can you post pictures?

Hi JKurger, thanks for your reply.
I haven't a camera or a webcam, so it'll be a while before I can post a picture. I'll try to borrow a camera later this week.
In the meantime, may I ask please what you mean by "the wrong connector?" Which segment specifically do you mean may be the wrong match? Just curious.
I know I typed this earlier, but just in case it's important I'll repeat it: the blue CRT looks identical and has the exact same model number as the other CRT's.
Okay, thanks again, bye for now.

Mine was hard plastic, with grooves for twisting/screwing it into something - but my projector, the sony 1271, uses little rubber stretches instead.
So all I did was replace the hard plastic thing with the right kind: the stretchy rubber kind.
As for the wire itself, I haven't pulled out others to compare, but since the blue CRT has the same model number as the other CRT's I think it's a safe bet that they're compatible.
The blue CRT wire-tip is broad and flat like a bottlecap. |
Since you are saying that moving the wire makes the problem go away and then reappear it would seem that you have a loose connection. Can you hear any buzzing or arcing sounds when you move it?

I didn't hear them last time I did it - but that was just one time, and I only did it for about 10 seconds. If it might've been a fluke that I didn't hear it that time, I'll try it again tonight - but I'm a little wary of handling so much current when I have so little experience, so if the first try was enough to know, I'd rather not do it again.
Thanks for your reply

Hi again -
Well, if no-one can think of any reason how it might do harm, then tomorrow I'm going to try the solder pen idea and see if that helps.
In the meantime it would be great to be told from someone here what I could use to clean the contact on the blue CRT's HV wire so as to improve the electrical conductivity further.
Thanks, bye

Hi. I can only pray against all probability that I can still get responses to this thread.
I went ahead with my idea.
Now the problem is somewhat different:
The blue raster "zooms in", but in a blurry way. Then flicks back down to normal-size, relatively sharp.
It's a cycle. It "flicks" back down audibly.
If I look into it, it grows larger and blurrier, until at a certain point it just "clicks" and goes back down to a small state. It never stays static at any point. It is always growing, except in the instant that it clicks and shrinks back down.
I've messaged Curt. I've messaged a guy in my area experienced with projectors. Nobody has any ideas.
I would really, really love to just sell this thing for parts. For a while, I was desperate to get it working for the sake of my father, for whom I bought it - but now I just want to be rid of it. I have no hope that it will ever work.

Why not ask Curt if he has a new HV lead and HV block? One or the other may help that unless it's in the neck card.
