...on what kind of response I get to the 'Have CRT Savant Prehjan Tell CRT vs. Digital From A Thumbnail' challenge? Rolling Eyes

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=17181082#post17181082

I'll respost the image here for your edification. Some guy took shots of his CRT and his Dig and posted 200-pixel-high versions in the 'full size' screenshot thread I posted. Anyway, it ended up with the usual foaming-at-the-mouth "ZOMG TEH CRT IS SO MUCH BETTER ITS OBVIOUS" stuff, so I sliced up the images and color-matched (color balance obviously not being a differentiating factor, given that the camera and monitor both alter it anyway)...

It's a fun challenge! Thumbs Up

If you are using FireFox press control and + to make the image bigger.

I could not tell much difference except for the colors being way different.

If the CRT was suppose to be the best image then I would have to guess D is the CRT.

I'm gonna go through and check your work when I get back to my other machine, since I've forgotten which is which, and it's impossible to tell! Very Happy Which was the entire point... I think Mr. Prehjan kinda got it after I called his bluff. Usually guys just disappear, so he at least gets credit for that. He's still a dick for bragging about trolling craigslist, though.

I really hope I get some time to do an A/B between the Optoma HD20 and my BG808s. What I'd like to do is VideoEqualize the colors on both so they match, and defocus the Optoma to match the resolving I've got in my 808, and do some full-size shots with the same camera settings etc. I'll lay dollars to donuts that if the focus and colors are similar, nobody will be able to tell which is which, even from a full size shot. The only thing that might give it away is interaction between the fixed pixel structure of the dig and the fixed pixel structure of the camera, but if I defocus the Optoma to match the 808 that'll probably go away...

But, we need to get that Optoma into one of our test machines, and my wife is sick (and the couch in the HT is comfortable!) so who knows.

OH...so my little spat with Prehjan the other day WAS justified. I thought I was being a little harsh but he was pissing me off by giving some one wrong info.... Laughing I didnt know who he was and never had conversation with him before. He does seem to have words to cover his illgotten claims when called on them..... Smile

Nice, Jask. Really though I kinda screwed up - there is a DIFFERENCE between the two images, and if you could tell which slices go together, your odds go from 1/128 to 1/2... doh. Smile
