So my ceiling-mounted Millennium Falcon (err, 1208/2) is in it's bi-yearly "blow something up" mode, I'll search/post it's problem later if I can't figure out how to replace the negative power coupling, but in the meantime I got the Ampro bug up my ass since I have far too many of them laying around now, and I was thinking of actually maybe USING ONE, instead of just tripping over them.
Am I crazy?
I have a 4300XE with 11 days of time on the clock sitting around.. Hanging a basically new 4300 seems like a better option than keeping the 1208/2 up there since it's a bit more capable. Any people out there using one for 1080p? and what sets apart the 4600?
X = converge on green, so I assume E is the Edge Blend option? I haven't ran across any info about this on here or in the manuals.. any info out there? sounds like it might be fun to play with but I expect it isn't very flexible.. I have two working 4200GXE in identical shape to the 4300, though one 4200 has 09MI's (model: 69351) and the other has PT22's (69351A), so they're probably a better stacking candidate than blending candidate though.
Is there any functional difference between old & new remotes? I only have one old one, though it works with everything I have, and would like to dig up at least one or two more..
as an aside, the 4200's have dead CPU batts I haven't replaced yet and one still always comes up with a blank LCD (not quiet or exec mode) and will not respond to any commands. A quick power cycle and then a 999[CODE] boots it up every time so far. I just stumbled upon this and it seems to work without fail so I figured I'd make mention of it as I hadn't noticed a reference anywhere.

You're just as sane as me.
Just remember not to get cocky while replacing the 'Falcon.

If the CPU batteries are dead or low they will act flaky like that. Order however many batteries you need plus one. Use the extra battery to jump onto the CPU to keep it powered while you replace the battery. That way the CPU board will not forget what it is, the timer will be in tact and you shouldn't have any issues powering back up when done.

damn, that usually works!
I have a feeling Ampros require a bit more brute force.. or maybe magic.

Sometimes you have to plug '3P0 into it to find out just what's wrong

It's an Ampro. Just hook it up to 480v and get it over with already. POOF!

If this is any measure of my sanity:
I have never even really set one one up for any amount of use before. I got rid of most of my extra Barcos & EHomes forever ago, but I still have a handful of them as well. All of these Ampros actually work though and only have CRT issues it seems..
This 4300 is pretty nice though
I fired it up after posting this thread, and the red CRT is coming up and has a good raster like the other two, but seems to have no focus whatsoever. I swapped the R & B neck cards with no change, but haven't swapped around anything else yet (like the focus board, duh). I'm already in Amprohell!

yeah, i've read about it.. and I've replaced one in one of my older 4200GX's that works but has shot CRTs. That batt in one of my "new" 4200GXE's seems totally dead though and the 999code brings it from the 'blank screen of death' every time so the temporary battery might not even be necessary if this technique works.
So, any insight into the remotes? they're functionally identical? I always assumed the new remotes only worked on the newer 'short' CPUs like the 4300 has, but my old remote works fine with it.

The remotes will work on various models based on the firmware in the main firmware ic.

I'm in central jersey, about 20 miles out of NYC. I'm in the middle of Kevin Smith-ville (I assume that's Curt's avatar? ) The three older units have some issues, if you want one/some of them they'll be reasonable.. I'll just put up a post in the buy/sell I guess, I have space but I have no real reason to have all this crap sitting around anyway when I have good units to use so I'll probably just finally sell/part all my extra stuff.. GT17's & misc parts must hold some value.
In the meantime I've done a rough setup on the 4300 and it looks really great, so the Barco is coming down.
anybody have an extra Ampro mount? doesn't hurt to ask I guess, I plan to just do the unistrut thing otherwise.
