I replaced my 32" CRT tv with a 42" lcd and found that they lcd does not have a coaxial input. I pulled out an old VCR and ran the coaxial into it and then video to the lcd. This works but the HD picture looks crummy. I know that you are not going to get HD through the coaxial cable but I am splitting the feed from this tv to the lcd in the kitchen and there is a noticeable difference between the standard analog and hd signal on this lcd. I also noticed a difference between the standard and HD channel on my previous CRT tv. Do you think the VCR is not allowing the higher bandwidth through and if so are there any other alternatives to convert the coaxial to video and audio in. This is going to be a temporary setup until I rework my satellite receiver setup and get an HD box for this room. I currently have the dual receiver upstairs with the HD signal for the theater room and the secondary output to the other 2 tv's.

This is a common problem with any high res display. People bitch that their SD signal on a flat screen looks worse than the old 27-32" CRT TV it replaced. Can't do anything about that. THe signal is what it is, your new display has too high a resolution, and is showing all the crap that your SD CRT TV didn't.

Exactly. The new display is far superior (in terms of pure resolution), that it shows every bit of noise, ghosting, reflection, and interference that your old tube TV hid. The other problem is, as you mentioned, you're not seeing any HD at all. Everything from the VCR is SD, and probably pretty crappy SD at that.
Dan, are you using the Dish multi-room setup?

Yes, I am using the HD output in the Theater room and the other to the Family Room and Kitchen. I have another SD receiver in the office. I am planning on changing out the office SD reciever for another HD DVR and then put this in the family room. I will then use the other output off of the multi-room for the office. Just trying to get a better picture until I get this all changed out. On the kitchen lcd I can see a dramatic difference between the HD channel and the SD channel but not on the family room lcd. The kitchen lcd has an coaxial input whereas the family room lcd does not. I guess running it through the VCR kicks everything out in SD.

Yes, that was my question. In the mean time I called DishTV and found that I can trade in my SD receiver for a HD DVR for no cost (except to re-up for another 24 months). They are bringing the new box out on Thursday. Suprisingly the guy from Dish was very helpful. He gave me a double discount for re-upping, free Cinemax for a year and free HBO and Showtime for 3 months. When it was all done my bill went down about $10.00 a month. I just need to remember to cancel the extras when the free trial time is up.

Yeah, they count on you not remembering to cancel. I actually put an appointment on my calendar to cancel.

Be careful!!! I am still fighting with Dish about the swapping of my 2-SD receivers to a HD and Dual tuner. They have over billed me from anywhere between $24.00 and $52.00. I made the change in Nov. of last year. 
Read your bill very carefully.
