Its funny, I've tried HD144/145's a couple of times, with different adapters, and always gone back to HD-8 RevB's....because they're sharper. I don't post about this because I know I'd get shouted down by the sellers of the adapters, but *to me* the HD-8 RevB's have always looked better. Add a color gel filter and you can get the more saturated red too...

Thanks for sharing this information. What kind projector du you have? mine is bd808so. The image was like razor sharp with HD 8 lenses. I change them because everyone else says that is so much better, but for me, it was a big disappointment I did everything correct, moved the screen closer.

It's look like blooming, but it isn't.

Can you see phosphur grain with the 144's?

On an Xtra or XG with 144's the grain sticks out like dog's balls.

They are really, really sharp, sharper than the HD-18s on an XG LC or G70 (LC compromise). You need to move to a HD-10 9" lens to equal them.

I agree, I think the install was done wrong or his lenses are too far from the tube face, that would make it look like blooming.

How is center focus adjusting tab? is it at one end?
Can you see gap between tube front glass and first lens, there should be gap that is only 2mm when lensfocus is adjusted so that first lens come closest to tubeface.
If there is situation that focus tab is at another end (to get best focus on screen) and picture is still out of focus, those adapters doesend allow enought focus range.

Currently it is a BG808S with high bandwidth neckboards, etc., and high resolution Panasonic tubes in scheimpflug mounts. However, all of my experimentation with HD144/145's was done on Marquee's. I used the Joust adapters, as well as an earlier adapter that I can't remember the maker of. Also, I tried the Roscor gel filter applied directly to the tubeface as an alternative method of improving color saturation and was very satisfied with the results.

I can only comment on my own personal experiences, and what I saw with my eyes in my setup were no improvement in focus using the HD144/145's, and the perception of slightly dimmer corners of the image from a Marquee.

I've owned many, many NEC's as well, which come with the HD144/145's installed from the factory, and my experience with them has been they are generally a sharper projector overall, but I believe that to be the case because of the tubes and electronics more so than because of the lenses. NEC's also have visibly different color reproduction than Marquee's/Barco's/Ampro's, and it is likely more a function of the lenses filtering properties than anything else.

You should be able to achieve equal focus quality with the HD144's/145's, as they are rated at (if I remember correctly...) 12lppm, same as the HD8RevB's, but to expect an improvement in the focus quality is more than the lenses are actually capable of.

Move yours closer to the tubeface than you think they should be before you write them off. As others here have pointed out, they need to be VERY close to the tubeface to function correctly.
