Doesn't anyone know when they stopped making the G70?
I thought this was a popular projector.

Not nearly as popular as almost every other one. I think the reason for this is that Sony didn't seem to market to the commercial/industrial market as they did the broadcast market and consumer level. Without an AC offering in their higher end sets, I'll bet the Marquees, Sonys, Barcos and Ampros always undercut them in price when the gov't was shopping for price quotes.

they made some in 1999 for sure but I think there are either no 2000 models and if there are they are few. that was pretty much the end.

My G70 is s/n 2000112. So, if that's what the 2000 in 2000112 means, mine was one of the 2000 machines.

there's actually a month and year label, it's very small and hard to read but it's on the side, behind the carrying handles.

Frankly, with the experience I had repairing H boards in a G70 yesterday (see avs for my misery), right now I wish they were all history. Smile

The G70 was too expensive for the home market. Sony marketed the D50 to the home theater market.

Is that the blue one? I looked on mine but there was no month/year label, just the s/n, mine is 2001**** FWIW. Could this possibly mean mine is a 2001 machine, or does the s/n not relate to the year?

I agree, but they only really seemed to market it to the broadcast industry, thus the reason why the parts and service are/were on their broadcast website rather than the commercial A/V stuff. I think Sony lost out bigtime. They should have made an EM focusing AC set to be competitive with the Marquee and BArco 808. Then again maybe not, I'd rather repair a Marquee or Barco. Thumbs Up

Hi
I finally found where the Manufacture date is, it is under the top case on the side.
I have two G70's one is SN. 2000039 Date Feb 1997 & SN. 2000656 Date Aug 2000.
The newer one is the one I use and I get a sharp clear 1080P pic out of it I have not tried the earlier model for 1080p.
Cheers
