Some of you oldtimers at avs will remember a bunch of great advice we got from Bruce (Techman707). I just trolled videogon, and for the first time in about 2 years, he's posting.
I've sent him an email inviting him over here, so hopefully he will, he's a great asset to the CRT community.

that's so strange, we just had a HT get together the other night and talked about all the exeprienced and knowledgeable people who just kind of disappeared from the CRT hobby. I mentioned Techman, it's good to hear he's back.

Hey Guys,
I wish I was "back", as Curt said. As many of you knew, I had emphysema. It has now progressed to the point that I'm on oxygen all night and most of the day. In addition, I'm so tired that I either sleep or watch television all day long (do you know what it's like to watch daytime television ). They say that without a lung transplant I can live anywhere from 6 to 18 months. At first (while I was still breathing okay), I said I didn't want a lung transplant and spend the rest of my life on immunio-suppressant drugs. However, when you can't breath at all, you quickly change your mind. To add to the problem, to be eligible for a transplant you have to be on less than 20mg of prednisone, which I'll probably soon exceed. On top of all that crap, believe it or not, the only hospital where lung transplants are done here in NY is Columbia-Presbyterian medical center, which is pretty far from where I am. So I don't think I'll be getting a transplant.
With the above said, I'm just passing the days and hope to stick around as long as I can.
Regards to all,
Bruce (Techman707)

That's a nasty bummer, Bruce. We've all missed your wisdom and humor while you've been gone. Hope you can find some way to beat this disease.

Damn, sorry Bruce, with you posting, I really wish it was better news. As we say on another forum I frequent, I'll eat some spinach for you tonight.

Glad to hear you are still kicking Bruce. I was about to send another 6 monthly "You still grumpy?" e-mail, and hope I got a response.
And in case anyone hasn't figured it out yet...DON'T SMOKE!!

Being completely new to CRT projectors is a daunting task. But yet, because of individuals such as yourself having the knowledge and generosity to share it sir, those hours and hours of scouring posts late into the night were fruitful hours. And some of the things I have in my head that let me build my family's cinema are things you gave me. So I owe you a big thanks. Journey well Bruce.
Regards
Ray

Grumpier than EVER!!!! After smoking for over 40 years it finally caught up to me. It just sneaked up on me without any warning. In 2002 the doctor said if I didn't stop smoking I'd be dead in five years. Well, I proved him wrong....at least until now.
When I think about dying and my wife getting all my money, it makes me crazy. They took care of that by giving me a lot of Xanax. The ironic thing is that before you can even be considered for a transplant, you have to have an angiogram (catheterization). I thought I MUST have clogged arteries after smoking and eating all the junk I ate. The doctor was even surprised that I had virtually NO clogging at all. So I told the doctor that now all I need is a new pair of lungs and I should live forever. What a waste of a good heart and arteries.

Tech,
Nice to talk with you again. I wish you the best of luck. Hope at the least those day time soaps are on a CRT.
