Just got in an older NEC PX42VP4 plasma.
It will power up fine without an input signal, but once an input signal is fed to the set, the picture will come up normally for a split second, then will go dark and almost negative, and either within seconds or a minute will shut down.
I'm guessing a bad cap somewhere in the power supply? Should I scope the outputs to see what voltage drops?
Thanks!

WOW. You must be in your glory. Finally a flat panel to work on.
Well I see you posted this 2 hours ago so I'm sure you've been in there messing around. Have you come up with anything yet?

Yeah, I found the problem, then the set went dead. ^&*^% digitals!
BUt.. once I'm up to speed, I think I'll start trolling for defective sets on CL. Despite being a nonrealistic picture, I could see about 4 places in the house where I want to put one, and I know selling refurb LCDs/Plasmas on Craigslist locally to the redneck trailer park folks will be like shooting fish in a barrel.
Gotta say, this NEC was exceptionally well built, but being the first set I've worked on, the learning curve is steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
