In another thread there was a mention that the Marquee and other PJs does not have a warmup pattern.
It was also mentioned that this pattern might cure some tube problems.
So why not make one that had some additional options.
You need VVVV from vvvv.org
It's free for non commercial use and is a simple node based realtime programming language.
Perfect for this sort of thing.
I have attached a simple patch that flashes a window (or fullscreen) in different ways.
Linear ramp up/down, sine, triangle and rectangle (binary on/off).
You can set the period between two different frequencies to ramp between.
You can also set the type of ramp to use.
Fullscreen is simply mapped to ALT + F and it toggles fullscreen on/off
Setting the fullscreen resolution is a little trickier,
press Ctrl + i. Then click the rendered node at the lower left.
Then in the Herr Inspector you opened earlier you can set the resolution by right clicking and selecting the right one.
You can toggle the color you want to output by right clicking on one of the three buttons.
To use the file change it's extension to .v4p
A GUI could be done to change parameters when in fullscreen if there is demand.

David. This program has the flasher in it along with a bunch of other great patterns. I use it a lot.

How would a warmup pattern help tube problems? I mean, either the tubes are being used or they're not - they don't know whether it's a movie or a different pattern, no?

Well the theory it that you might be able to shake off contamination. And it might take different frequencies to do that so I thought why not.
It might be able to do some good with a broken tube. Or not. It's worth a test if someone needs it.
A simple on/off flash might not be enough. Or it might. I don't know. But you have the option here.
The barco warmup pattern flashes the tube on/off and I have read about it being able to remove contamination on certain tubes when run at high contrast.
A full field flash changes a lot more than video content so it's different.
I usually use NEC test pattern generator as you don't need to install it. It also has a flasher.
But the very simple app I made is more advanced.
So someone might find a use for it.

This is a nice little program David. I gave it a try. I like how you can flash what ever colors you want. You have to watch though. A few times while watching the flashes, I thought I was going to throw up.....

I saw the title of this thread, and an entirely different image came to mind...
