Just keep in mind the HDMI inputs on the 1057 are video switching only. No conversion from anything to HDMI and no audio from HDMI.

Seems like kind of a sideways move in many ways.

thanks guys
I'm looking at it more so for the sound quality.
the HDMI output limitations i'm aware of and its not a big thing for me as I have my PS3 plugged directly into my pj which doesn't bother me.
the more complicated its to turn on for someone the better its for me. Its makes it less likely that my gf to try and turn it on to watch her Soaps Laughing

I understand that the sound quality is better than my denon and for $850cdn for the new rotel I thought was a kickin deal (just over 50% off).

If sound is your goal then the Rotel is a step up. I like denon sound as well but this unit is a much nicer, cleaner sound than the denon..(IMHO)

I like the denon sound as well. I've tried Sony, pioneer and Cambridge Audio but I just kept coming back to denon which is why I was interested in the Rotel.

I have read a few reviews of the 1057. AVmag didn't give it too great of a review.

I guess the best thing for me to do it demo it in my place and see how it goes.

Receivers making sound? First, they better keep their humming to a minimum. I want the speakers to make sound. And even that case no receiver is the end all for sound generation. Its a collection of source, processing, speakers, and environment. Why think a receiver is the golden key? Dumb!

Ummmm What???

Receivers are a compromise, Separates are usually better, but Dumb????

I thought about going seperates but my room that is movie dedicated and is only 13X15. So its not a huge room. I can get away with a good avreceiver with 5.1 capabilities.

I'm running mostly B&W speakers except the sub which is a 15yr old Sound Dynamic that needs to be replaced.
I do love the sound of the Denon but thought it was time to get something new. Well I really didn't "NEED" something new just "wanted" something new. Laughing

Anyways, picked up the Rotel yesterday at lunch. Hopefully sometime this weekend i'll set it up and see how it sounds.

No, I think he's saying that focusing on the receiver to the exclusion of environment/speakers/etc is dumb.
