Found this interesting info on an open source program project being made for Logitec remotes, but the 890 and 1000 are not included yet at this date but they say they will be soon.

That is awesome...I am hoping my 2 year old will get into movies with me!

Hey, the problem is not if they will get into it (kids love "TV"), the problem is limiting it (and yourself). There are many movies I enjoy with her, but PG-13 is still often more than I want to expose her to (parts of you brain don't "know" the difference between movies and real life and many of those movies have lessons I don't want to teach her). Further, you cannot expect a 6 year old to be interested in intricate or sophisticated plots! So, I look forward to her eventual growth in maturity that will make watching some of favorites alot of fun as she'll be seing them for the first time.

Wow, thanks! I will have to look at this when I get time. Quick glance showed that it is like most open source projects! I have to get it and compile it myself. Oh, but can't do that until I get and compile one of its dependencies! Come on people, it is not that hard to just distributed compiled binaries for those who just want to play with it!

As an aside, it is Logitech that effed up the Harmony a bit. The Harmony remotes were originally loosely coupled to the programming platform (smart design). The programming platform produced and XML file, the remote consumed this. You could edit the XML file directly to make the remote do things it could do but the programming software didn't have the capability to configure.

Logitech came in and effed this up taking away the XML file and tightly coupling them. An example would be my remote has 1 button that:
1) pauses the playback device (for example, the BD player),
2) raises the lights to 30%.

In my house, this button is nicknamed the "pee button". Wink

Well, I wanted that function on my harmony--but not so fast bucko. It took me:
1) 1 hour of trying to figure it out in their software, followed by
2) 1 hour of research on the Web to determine that I could not do that, but 3rd level support could do it (they can muck with your config in the database), followed by
3) 95 minutes (literally) on the phone with Logitech to make my way to 3rd level support, then to get them to make the change.

over 3.5 hours, over 1/3 on the phone, to do a programming task that any other $80+ universal remote could do in <5 minutes. And some wonder why many hate the Harmony! Smile

Had they left the XML programming in place, I could have done it in half the time with no call to Logitech.
